The Atlanta Falcons on the other hand are reeling, starting the season in a 1-2 hole after going to the NFC Championship last year. This is a huge SEC battle and perhaps even a de facto BCS Championship elimination game. An SEC team could probably survive one loss but two would make it very hard to compete for the Championship.
The 49ers and Rams have both gotten off to forgettable starts this season and look to right the ship when these NFC West rivals clash on Thursday Night football. Last season, San Francisco was the second best team in the league and the Rams held them to a tie and an overtime win in which the teams almost tied again.
The San Jose State Spartans and Utah State Aggies were popular dark horse picks in the offseason, with many outside observers expecting big years from these programs. Each has been a disappointment thus far, but one school will have a chance to turn things around under the Friday night lights.
