This year’s Orange Bowl isn’t what online betting fans had in mind when they figured the Big East would battle the ACC. Online college football betting fans were probably thinking the BC Eagles from the ACC, although Virginia Tech isn’t bad, but Cincinnati from the Big East? Seriously? The Cincinnati Bearcats made it to the Orange Bowl by virtue of their 11 and 2 straight-up record. Among the teams they beat to get there were the West Virginia Mountaineers, ranked in the top twenty to start the season, the South Florida Bulls, Rutgers and Pittsburgh.
It’s the start of the New Year and with that the signal that we are now getting to some of the best College Bowl Picks matchups of this season rendition of the “playoffs”. There has been some mild surprises thus far but none that I would consider an huge surprise. There’s been some exciting matchups and some not so exciting (just look at that yawner yesterday between Pitt and Oregon St).
Oddsmakers predict a tight contest when the Virginia Tech Hokies meet the Cincinnati Bearcats in the Orange Bowl.
The Bearcats are 2 ½-point favorites and 57% of bettors are backing them.
ACC champ Virginia Tech is a familiar name to the BCS. Big East champ Cincinnati is a first time participant. In fact, the Bearcats have never even played a BCS-Conference opponent in a bowl game before. Will that be the difference in Thursday’s Orange Bowl?
Virginia Tech is playing in its 16th straight bowl game, though it has lost all three of its appearances in BCS games. On the basis of fundamentals, it looks like clear edges should be going Cincinnati’s way.
