2014-15 Football Previews – (SEC) – Gamecocks
It took a while for the publicized move to pay dividends, but having head coach Steve Spurrier – formerly of Florida Gators fame – patrolling the sideline for South Carolina has been fruitful.

These are two very good teams and this should be a nice bowl game. Wisconsin is once again one of the top rushing teams in the nation so if the Gamecocks are going to win they are going to have to play a strong defensive game, which they usually do.
While it may sometimes be overshadowed by the rivalry games in Alabama and Florida, the battle for South Carolina is always one of the weekend’s more lively affairs. This weekend the South Carolina Gamecocks and Clemson Tigers will meet with each side ranked in the top 10.
A pair of teams heading in opposed directions will square off in an SEC showdown, when No. 12 South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier hosts his alma mater in Columbia on Saturday.
The 14th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks will need to avoid a lull after their big win over then No. 5 Missouri in double overtime on Saturday. The team has the benefit of playing at home, but they will face a tough SEC foe in the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
It doesn’t seem anything can slow the fifth-ranked Missouri Tigers, not even an injury to their quarterback. The Tigers continue to roll, now at 7-0, and look to get past the toughest part of their schedule on Saturday when they take on the 21st-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks.
The 11th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks are riding high coming off a blowout win over Arkansas. Now they get a Tennessee Volunteers team that is coming off a bye, but will surely still be feeling the sting of having lost out on a potential upset of Georgia in overtime their last time out.
Heisman contender Jadeveon Clowney sat out of the No. 14 Gamecocks’ bout with Kentucky last week with sore ribs, but is expected to start on the road against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday in a SEC college football showdown in Fayetteville.
The East Carolina Pirates emerged from Week 1 unscathed, collecting an easy win against Appalachian State (at least score wise). They always schedule up in the non-conference so it is no surprise to see them making the short trip to South Carolina.
Things do not stack up well for South Carolina (9-12) in this home game, as they are facing a Kentucky (22-1) team that is ranked #1 in the nation, has already beaten them by 15 points this season, and on top of that the Gamecocks have lost 6 of their last 7 games.
South Carolina can achieve the most wins in their history with a win over Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl, but the Gamecocks have dropped 3 straight bowl games.
The never-ending saga of Gamecocks quarterback Stephen Garcia finally came to (what should be) a decisive halt this week, as he was dismissed from the team.
To this point in the regular season, neither of these SEC combatants have been flawless, but South Carolina has been an SEC East division power while Kentucky has been an SEC East pretender.
It hasn’t always been pretty for the Ole Ball Coach and his South Carolina Gamecocks, but the bottom line speaks loudest, which is Carolina beating unbeaten and ranked #10 in the FBS.
Steve Spurrier – “The Ole Ball Coach” – finally moved his Gamecocks forward in 2010, where they snagged nine wins and represented the SEC East in the title game.
