The Rockets might not have impressed in September but they have been perfect in MAC play and that is despite losing promising transfer QB Philip Ely in the second week of the season.
At 5-0 they are in the driver’s seat in the MAC West and for the first time in a while the Huskies are chasing them and not the other way around.

This week they are facing the proposition of not having reserve QN Logan Woodside either, which is no line on the game at present.
If Woodside is out it puts even more pressure on the Rockets running game, which is the best part of their team. Kareem Hunt is that typical small conference back but he yields to few in terms of production. He missed a few weeks due to injury but he has rushed for better than 100 yards in all of his starts this season.
Freshman backup Terry Swanson has also been a terror averaging almost 7 yards per carry. He is a little small to carry the load but if you blink he is gone.
The Huskies are not going to be barrelling into the playoffs this season but with a strong finish they can reach double-digit victories for a fourth season in a row.

In this one they will be looking to jump on top of the West with a victory, potentially setting up a huge tilt with Western Michigan in the final week of the season.
This year’s team is a little less balanced than they have been in the past. The running game is still punishing but Jordan Lynch has proved pretty hard to replace.
Quarterback Drew Hare has been doing his best but he has not been helped by the fact that receiver Tommy Lee Lewis has been out for the season since the third week.
Without balance and that confidence Lynch had to plow through every situation it has just been more difficult this season.
The Huskies are picking up steam since losing to Central Michigan at home and the only other team to beat them this season was Arkansas…so look out.

If there was more certainty at QB for Toledo I think we would have one that goes down to the wire.
At home, midweek, potential blackout, you have to go with the Huskies. They can cover a TD easy.

NIU is 15-15 ATS with an O/U record of 14-15 and Bowling Green is 16-11-1 ATS with an O/U record of 13-14. In their last games Northern Illinois beat Ball State 70-56 and Bowling Green lost to Buffalo 88-65.
Heisman Trophy finalist Jordan Lynch will play the final game of his college career on Thursday, when No. 23 Northern Illinois faces Utah State in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.
This week will likely be a bit anticlimactic for Northern Illinois. Last week they had a legitimate challenge against a good Toledo team on the road but their last game of the MAC regular season is against a very limited Western Michigan team.
The Toledo Rockets may not be ranked, but they are winning games and are within a game of sharing the MAC West crown with a win over their visiting rivals, No. 15 Northern Illinois on Wednesday night.
Northern Illinois will look to extend the nation’s longest home winning streak, having won 24 in a row at Huskie Stadium, when they host the Ball State Owls on Wednesday night in DeKalb.
Quarterback Jordan Lynch threw his hat back into the ring alongside the other Heisman Trophy candidates with an outstanding individual performance last weekend, and now looks to continue his stellar play when the 18th-ranked Northern Illinois Huskies host the Eastern Michigan Eagles.
The Northern Illinois Huskies had an amazing season in 2012. They went undefeated in the MAC, and ended up playing in the Orange Bowl. Though they did fall 31-10 in that game, the season was still a huge success. Dave Doeren moved on in the offseason, and the Huskies will have Rod Carey as their new head coach.
The MAC always gets overshadowed by the Big Ten and rightfully so.
There was every reason to think the Huskies program might slide after last year success especially because they graduated do everything QB Chandler Harnish.
You might be surprised to learn that Northern Illinois has the longest current winning streak in all of FBS football right now. Northern Illinois has won nine straight games heading into this season. The Huskies won the MAC Championship and their bowl game in Dave Doeren’s first season as their coach.
The Northern Illinois Huskies were the dominant team in the MAC last year. The Huskies went unbeaten in the MAC regular season action.
