Argentina – FIFA Ranking 9
Argentina – Odds To Win World Cup: +800
Argentina enters the 2010 World Cup as one of the most talented teams in the tournament. Messi, Tevez, Mascherano and Higuain are a few studs on the roster. The X-factor is volatile manager Diego Maradonna who could make or break this team.
There is absolutely no reason for the Argentines not to advance and make a serious run for the championship. Group B is a lock but beyond that depends on how the gel and how much of a distraction Maradonna’s exploits are.
Argentina World Cup Predictions:
First in Group B but suddenly ousted in the round of 8.
Nigeria – FIFA Ranking 22
Nigeria – Odds To Win World Cup: +10000
This is a very good side, but has reared it dysfunctional head in the recent past. Players have complained about the style adopted by the coaches and rightfully so. They are quick and talented up front but a defensive tact does not allow them to use their skill.
Players like Obafemi Martins, Jon Obi Mikel and Yakubu should be enough for the Nigerians to advance but with Argentina and Greece in the Group, it is going to be tough.
Nigeria World Cup Predictions:
It could be a disappointing 3rd place finish in the Group prompting a swift change in managers. This team has its share of attackers without an attacking game plan.
Greece – FIFA Ranking 11
Greece – Odds To Win World Cup: +12500
In a group full of instability, Greece looks like the most cohesive side and could be poised to make it out of the Group stage. With decent forwards and strong defenders could lull their way into the next round.
Greece will battle Nigeria for the second spot in Group B with the Greeks eeking out a second place finish. Good defense and a strong, stable program should be enough for the Greeks to move on.
Greece World Cup Predictions:
Greece will defense their way past the Group Round but will not likely get past the Round of 16. Second in the group is not out of the question, but then again neither is third.
South Korea – FIFA Ranking 8
South Korea – Odds To Win World Cup: + 1800
After a superb run at the 2002 World Cup, the South Koreans disappointed in 2006. Names like Park Ji-Sung and Park Chu-Young have given the Koreans some hope.
The Koreans won their qualifying group having not lost. Goal scoring continues to be a problem (12 goals in 8 qualifying game).
It is going to be difficult for South Korea in a group that boasts three of the top 22 sides in the world.
South Korea World Cup Predictions:
South Korea is definitely the weakest side in this group and although they will compete every minute, their skill level will not be enough to keep up with the other three teams in the Group.
Conclusion:
Group B is pretty strong. Argentina is as close to a lock as there is in the Group Stage, but the battle for second should be interesting indeed.
There are two potentially sneaky teams in Group B that could rise up and make some noise in the Round of 16.
