After helping to eliminate European favorite Italy, Slovakia will focus on providing another upset when they kick off against unbeaten Holland in the fifth match of Round 16 action on Monday.

Holland and Slovakia have met nine times before with Slovakia winning six of them, losing two, and drawing one.

They have also outscored Holland 17 to 8 in those games, so their past record should give them some added confidence heading into this match.

However, this year’s Dutch side is in perfect form and will be a much more difficult opponent to beat than the Italians, who were desperately out of form. Holland, who ended up in first place in Group E after wins over Denmark, Japan and Cameroon, are one of only two teams to win all three of their group games. The other being Maradona’s Argentina.

Their offensive prowess has been impressive as well as their ability of limiting their opposition’s scoring chances.

The Oranje have plenty of attacking options with forwards Dirk Kuyt, Robin Van Persie, Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Arjen Robben, and midfielder Wesley Sneijder all capable of putting the ball in the net.

They also take care of their own end of the pitch with solid defending from John Heitinga and Giovanni Van Bronckhorst leading the way at the back.

The Slovakians, will face a daunting task, but don’t count them out if they can bring the same squad to face the Dutch that humiliated Italy.

The side finished in second place in Group F after drawing with New Zealand, being shut out by Paraguay, and beating the reigning World Cup champions 3-2. Slovakia struggled offensively in their first two encounters, but sprang into action against the Italians to advance. They will need to achieve that same offensive output, creating chances early on, keeping pace or leading it, to keep their hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals alive.

With 10 players aged 25 and under they should have the legs to get it done.

They will lean heavily on 28-year old star striker Robert Vittek, who has three goals in Slovakia’s three group matches, including two against Italy.

Midfield maestro Marek Hamsik will also be a key component along with Kamil Kopunek and defenders Martin Skrtel, and Radoslav Zabavnik will be called upon to defend against the Dutch offensive onslaught while quickly moving the ball up field and matching Holland in pace.

Slovakia has competed well to this point, but Holland is a much better side in near perfect form. Slovakia’s strategy is simple –get ahead early and hold on.

The Oranje have never trailed in any of their group stage matches and it would interesting to see how they react if they fall behind.

Holland vs. Slovakia Free Pick

The Dutch have enough experience and skill to win this game by a pair of goals, advancing to the quarterfinals for the first time since France 1998.
