Three of the last four meetings between City and Liverpool in Manchester have ended 0-0, but it’s been more than five years since the Citizens have won a home league game against the Reds.

But with a star-studded City line up, this year could be the Citizens chance to reverse that trend.

Their overall head-to-head record in 159 matches is 79 wins for Liverpool, 40 for City and 40 draws.

City (0-1-0) was held to a scoreless draw at Tottenham last Saturday and their third straight Premier League game without a win, while Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina’s late own goal enabled Arsenal to grab a draw from an exciting Barclays Premier League opener at Anfield.

The Gunners had the run of the play for the majority of the first half and frustration set in as former Chelsea man Joe Cole was given a red card for a tackle on Arsenal Defender Laurent Koscielny.

City survived a first-half Spurs onslaught as keeper Joe Hart rescued his mates on numerous occasions, denying Jermain Defoe, Tom Huddlestone and Benoit Assou-Ekotto, while Gareth Bale also hit the post. The Citizens have kept a clean sheet in their opening home game of the season in the last five campaigns and after Hart’s spectacular play against the Hotspur, this year should be no different.

After two identical starts, both clubs will now face off in the English Premier League’s Monday match at City of Manchester Stadium looking to register their fist win of the 2010-11 season.

The Reds (0-1-0) has won just one of their last nine away games in the Premier League in 2009, whilst City won 40 of their 67 points at home last season.

Liverpool will be without Cole, who misses the first of three League games through suspension following the first red card of his career. Striker Fernando Torres, a late substitute in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal, could start, though Roy Hodgson must decide to use him ahead of David Ngog, who partners the pair in attack. Hodgson will monitor his fitness and make his decision sometime this weekend. Captain Steven Gerrard will return after being rested for the Europa League tie against Trabzonspor.

City have some setbacks of their won to contend with, including striker Mario Balotelli, who picked up a knock after scoring the winner in his debut, and summer signings Aleksander Kolarov (ankle) and Jerome Boateng (knee) will still be patrolling the sideline. However, newcomer James Milner has finally arrived from Aston Villa and is available to make his first appearance in Manchester blue.

Manchester City vs. Liverpool Free Pick

Although City was unimpressive offensively in their season opener, they have a ton of talent and it will only be a matter of time before they find a way to use it to their advantage.

Liverpool in the other hand also has a cadre of dynamic players, but still have some issues to iron out.

I like City in this one 1-0 as the Reds will have to wait for their 2000th victory in league football until after their bout at Eastlands.
