2009 PGA Wyndham Championship Preview/Picks

Preview and free golf picks for the 2009 PGA Wyndham Championship, which is hosted by Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.. The purse is $5.1 million, and the defending champ is Carl Pettersson…

Golf Odds – Consistent Clark tames Sedgefield

While NFL betting players will be focused on preseason action, this week’s golf odds come from Sedgefield Country Club, site of the Wyndham Championship. Carl Pettersson is the defending champion at this event, and this year’s winner will pick up his first career win on the PGA Tour.

Lucas Glover (+1600) has been quiet since winning the US Open, posting two top-fives and four top-20s in six starts since Bethpage Black. He was T-20 at Sedgefield in 2008, and he’s been amazing with the driver: Glover is first on the PGA Tour in total driving, which combines length with accuracy, which is why he’s one of the leading sports picks this week.

Tim Clark (+1600) has made the cut in 15 of 17 starts in 2009, with four top-10s and he’s coming off a T-16 in the PGA Championship. After the bomber’s paradise that was Hazeltine, Clark’s short but accurate game should put him in perfect position to get that elusive first victory on the PGA Tour.

Sergio Garcia (+1800) is a trap bet. The Spaniard has one top-10 in 13 events this season, and he’s never played at Sedgefield. He can’t be in a good frame of mind as he missed the cut at the PGA Championship, and he’s 115th in the FedEx Cup playoff standings. Only 125 golfers will be included in the playoffs, and we all know how Garcia does with pressure, especially with the putter.

David Toms (+2000) has been inconsistent as of late, missing the cut in three of his last six starts, and he’s coming off a 36th-place result in the PGA Championship. Toms has three runner-up finishes this year, and seven top-10s in the events where he’s made it to the weekend. Although he offers a bit more value forbetting management players, you’d be advised to stay away from Toms this weekend.

2009 PGA Wyndham Championship Pick:

The winner this weekend will have shoot a low score, as five of the last six winners have needed a -18 to take the victory. Clark is just behind Toms at fourth in scoring average in 2009, and he’s been playing better as of late.

Clark is often referred to as the best player currently on the Tour to never win, and he has 35 career top-10s.

That all changes starting on Thursday, and you should go with Tim Clark when you’re betting online.

After last weeks high drama and excitement it is hard to get focused on this weeks action. Out of your four picks I would have to go with Tim Clark as he has been playing the best of the group.
