NFC East Game Previews – Philadelphia Eagles vs Dallas Cowboys

The Philadelphia Eagles will try and keep their slim division title hopes alive this Saturday afternoon  when they clash with the Dallas Cowboys at Cowboys Stadium in this crucial NFC East showdown.

Point spread: Cowboys -3
Over/Under: 50.5

The game is set to get underway at 4:15 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on FOX.

Philadelphia has strung together a couple of victories and at 6-8 straight-up (and against the spread) a win on Sunday coupled with a Giants’ loss to the Jets would actually put itself in position to repeat as division champions. It would need to close-out the season with a win at home against Washington and the hope Giants then beat Dallas at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Right now, all the Eagles need to focus on is avoiding the costly turnovers, mistakes, and defensive breakdowns that led to the sub .500 record in the first place. Over the past two games, the offense is moving the ball again with the return of Michael Vick to the lineup and the defense is actually starting to resemble the talented group of players that everyone thought would dominate the East this year.

Dallas snapped a two-game slide last Saturday night with a 31-15 romp over Tampa Bay as a seven-point road favorite. It is now 8-6 SU (5-8-1 ATS) and can lock-up the division title by simply winning its last two games. Unfortunately, simple has not been in this team’s vocabulary this season as it seems destined to make things as hard as possible in its quest to get back to the postseason. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The one person you cannot blame for the Cowboys’ inconsistencies over the past few games is Tony Romo. Ever since the calendar turned the page to the month of November, he has lit things up with 18 touchdowns verse just three interceptions. He now has 3,895 passing yards and 29 TD’s on the year.

The Eagles are 4-9 ATS in their last 15 games against the NFC and the total has stayed ‘under’ in their last five games against the NFC East.

The Cowboys are 1-5 ATS in their last six games against the NFC. The total has stayed ‘under’ in five of their last seven games played in the conference.

Head –to-head, Philadelphia rolled to a 34-7 victory on Oct. 30 as a three-point home favorite, but is just 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings. The total has stayed ‘under’ in four of the last six meetings. The Eagles are basically playing with house money at this point, having been out of the division race for most of the season. This nothing-to-lose attitude pays off with a huge win on the road.

The Pick: Philadelphia 23 vs. Dallas 17
