The Calgary Flames will try to build on an incredible Game 3 win to even their Western Conference semi-final series with the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night.

The Flames used their patented never-quit style to hand the Ducks their first loss of the postseason – Calgary tied the game with 20 seconds left and scored on a delayed penalty in Overtime.

Will the good fortune continue in Game 4 or have the Flames used up all of their luck in a five minute span? Let’s take a look.

There isn’t a whole lot of panic in the Ducks dressing room and realistically there shouldn’t be. The Ducks largely dominated the Flames in Game 3 and may have deserved a better fate. The Ducks outshot Calgary, they outchanced them and they dominated the faceoff circle as well holding an incredible 40-19 advantage in that department.

The Ducks held up defensively – they allowed just 21 shots on goal to the Flames – Frederik Andersen had his first sketchy game of the playoffs. He didn’t look terrible but he didn’t make the game changing save that he had made during Anaheim’ six game win streak. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt here – Andersen will bounce back.

After all he is still 2-1-0 in his last three starts with a 1.63 GAA and .933 save percentage.

The Ducks offense is still clicking- Corey Perry has been the best player on the ice so far. He has three goals and four assists in the series. His 14 points are among the most in the league in the postseason.

Matt Beleskey has three points in three games and Perry’s other lineate Ryan Getzlaf, although not on the Hot List has played very well so far and set up two goals in Game 3.

Sami Vatanen has seven points in seven games, Hampus Lindholm has five points in five games, Simon Despres has four points in four games and Patrick Maroon has three points in his last four games. Everyone is contributing for Anaheim – despite a loss Tuesday they are still a very dangerous squad.

The Calgary Flames dodged one bullet on Tuesday night. The question is whether or not they can dodge a second on home ice Friday night.

Despite not generating a whole lot offensively in Game 3, the compete level was there and they made things a little miserable for the Ducks. Work ethic has to be the determining factor for Calgary and that is precisely what they showed in front of their fans in Game 3.

That said Calgary still looked overmatched by the size and the skill of the Anaheim Ducks Tuesday. They were less than 20 seconds away from a 3-0 hole but in typical fashion Calgary found a way – as they have all season long.

Calgary netted four goals Tuesday after combining for just one in the first three games of the series. The depth finally showed up – Mikael Backlund and Joe Colbourne scored and nine players registered a point.

Of concern is the play of the top line however – Sean Monohan went pointless again and Jiri Hudler has yet to record a point in the series.

Kari Ramo will get his third start of the postseason Friday – he stopped 17 of 20 shots in Game 3 and has looked OK against the high powered Ducks.

That said he is far from the elite keeper that will keep the Ducks off the score sheet.

The Ducks played a good game on Tuesday night – they led throughout up until 20 seconds left in the game. Anaheim left town during the off days and relaxed in a resort setting. That relaxation could be the difference Friday night. Despite Calgary’s inspirational win in Game 3, the Ducks were still the better team.
