The Montreal Canadiens await looking to build on a two game win streak and a 7-2-1 stretch in their last 10 games while the Stars hope to improve upon an unflattering 4-4-2 stretch in their last 10 games.

For the Dallas Stars to consider themselves a contender, it all starts with improved defensive play – period. Dallas has allowed 151 goals so far this year – third worst in the West and fifth worst in the NHL. That’s 3.26 goals per game allowed- not good.

Kari Lehtonen figures to get the start in net for the Stars – he hasn’t been great at any point of the season. Lehtonen has a 2.98 GAA and .904 save percentage so far and has not stolen any games for Dallas this year.

Where the Stars are excelling is in the offensive zone. The team has remained in the top tier of NHL offenses averaging 3.09 goals per game – fourth best in the league. That said the Stars’ power play hasn’t impressed, ranking 28th at 15 per cent.

[dfads params=’groups=16&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin have been sensational for Dallas but the supporting cast has been sadly lacking as evidenced by Jason Spezza’s eight goals and 26 assists so far this season.

Depth is an issue for the Dallas offense – if you shut down the top guys, the Stars are an average offensive team. And the Habs have the horses to do just that.

The Montreal Canadiens entered the All-Star break all systems go. Everything is going well for this team both offensively and defensively.

Montreal is 7-for-18 on the power play in its last four games after going 1-for-21 in the previous seven. Max Pacioretty leads the Canadiens with 38 points and is eighth in the NHL in goals (21) and seventh in the plus/minus ratings (plus-22) – he has 12 goals and 15 assists at Bell Center this year. Andrei Markov has four points in two games, PK Subban has three points in two games, Alex Galchenyuk has three points in two games and Brenden Gallagher has three points in his last four games

Carey Price will get the start in goal despite his participation in the All-Star game.

He has been on fire as well – 9-2-1 in his last 12 games with a 1.66 GAA and .946 save percentage over that span.

NHL Gambling Trends

• Over is 8-3 in DAL last 11 overall.
• Over is 9-4 in DAL last 13 Tue. games.
• MON are 12-4 in their last 16 overall.
• Under is 6-2-3 in MON last 11 vs. Central.
• MON are 6-2 in their last 8 games following a win.
• Home team is 7-3-1 in the last 11

The Dallas Stars are actually a better on the road than they are at home but up against a Canadiens team that has lost just five times in regulation of home ice this year, it is hard to imagine Dallas cracking the unwavering confidence of the home side. Montreal is a motivated team – motivated to chase down first place in the Atlantic Division.
