Both teams won their first games back from the Christmas break – the Flames claimed victory in the only meeting of the season between the clubs – 4-3 in Overtime December 22.
Despite what was a slow start by the Kings’ standards, they are still one of the top teams in the NHL – from the goaltending to the defense to the forwards. The Kings have been playing well in both sides of the rink and will certainly be eager to avenge a loss two back against these Calgary Flames.

The Kings are averaging an OK 2.75 goals per game this year.
Some of their top guys have been coming out of their shell and have been leading the team offensively. Anze Kopitar had a goal and an assist Saturday to give him 12 points in his last five games, Jamie McBain (one goal and three assist) has points in three straight games and Jeff Carter has eight points (three goals and five assists) in five games.
Marion Gaborik is starting to score – nine points in five games and Drew Doughty has eight points in eight games. Even Tyler Toffoli scored Saturday – his first tally in 10 games – the Kings look good offensively.

Jonathan Quick figures to get the start between the pipes – Quick was 2-1-1 with a 3.46 GAA and .853 save percentage in four starts prior to Saturday’s win. Quick is 9-5-3 with a 1.73 goals against average against Calgary in his career. He gave up four to the Flames before Christmas and should be motivated for a big game Monday.
The Calgary Flames have put together a two game win streak after an eight-game slide in which it was outscored 26-13. One of those wins came against the Kings and the other was a 4-1 win against hapless Edmonton on Saturday night.
The straw that stirs the drink for Calgary is Johnny Gaudreau who has been on fire for the Flames. He has six goals in his last three games and has scored five of Calgary’s last eight goals!
He’s not the only Hot Flame – Mark Giordano and Juri Hudler each have three points in their last two games, Dennis Weidman, Curtis Glencross and TJ Brodie each have two points in two games and Kris Russell has two points in his last three games.
Calgary will need Gaudreau again – they are 8-9-0 when he is held off the scoresheet.

Jonas Hiller will get the nod for Calgary. He is 2-0-1 with a 1.97 GAA and .935 save percentage in his last three games and has a .934 save percentage in his last six starts overall.
