The Habs look to avoid going winless in California after losing to the Sharks Monday and the Ducks last night but it will be tough – the Kings own one of the best home records in the league at 20-7-6 and have at least one point in seven of their last eight at Staples Center (5-1-2).

The Montreal Canadiens have dropped the first two games of their current road trip and have been outscored 7-1 in those games. Needless to say, the offense and the defense have disappeared – only a late goal with 2 minutes left in the game Wednesday kept them from being shut out in consecutive games.

An offensive show of force is due for Montreal who averages 2.59 goals per game.

Nobody is Hot offensively for Montreal but names like Max Pacioretty, Tomas Plekanec, Alex Galchenyuk (who scored last night), PK Subban and company are far better than they have been playing.

Montreal has teams clipping at their heels in the Eastern Conference and needs a win to keep their place atop the standings.

Carey Price played last night and could potentially get the night off tonight. Price has made seven straight starts, has lost back-to-back outings after having a 1.18 goals-against average during a 9-0-1 stretch.

Dustin Tokarski who is an unflattering 1-3-1 with a 3.43 GAA in his last five starts may get the call, making the Habs offense even more crucial in this game.

The Los Angeles Kings have been a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde team lately – they won eight straight, lost three straight and then won last time out in Edmonton. Altogether they have won nine of their last 12 but have shown that they can head into a slump at any time.

The Kings currently sit tied with Calgary for the final Wild Card spot in the West but would lose out on the tiebreaker – every game is critical for the Kings from here-on-in.

For the Kings to be successful it will be up to Jonathan Quick and he’s been good lately. Quick is 9-2-0 with a 1.88 GAA in his last 11- he is back to the elite status that LA absolutely requires to make it back to the playoffs.

LA’s offense has been OK lately as well – they scored five times against Edmonton on Tuesday. Anze Kopitar and Trevor Lewis had a goal and two assists apiece against Edmonton, while Jeff Carter scored his third goal in two games.

Drew Doughty has three points in three games and Tyler Toffoli has two points in his last two games.

The balance has returned for LA – a good sign going forward.

NHL Gambling Trends

• Under is 18-6-3 in MON last 27 road games.
• MON are 11-4 in their last 15 road games.
• Under is 33-15-11 in MON last 59 overall.
• LA are 7-1 in their last 8 games following a win.
• LA are 9-3 in their last 12 overall.
• Under is 37-15-12 in LA last 64 Thu. games.
• MON are 8-2 in the last 10 meetings.

The Montreal Canadiens won the only meeting of the season between the two teams- 6-2. I am expecting another high-scoring game Thursday. Dustin Tokarski, Montreal’s probable starting goaltender hasn’t been good recently while the Kings offense has played very well the last few weeks.

I am also expecting the Habs to snap out of their offensive funk. Thursday’s game has 4-2 written all over it – the Over is the play here!

The Over – 5 goals
