Week 5 Seahawks vs. Giants NFL Predictions

In Week 5 NFL betting action, two teams coming off their bye weeks lock horns in the Meadowlands as the 1-2 Seahawks take on the undefeated defending Super Bowl Champs – the NY Giants. We preview and pick this game final score.

NFL Week Five Wagering – Seattle Seahawks at New York Giants

The New York Giants (3-0 SU, 2-1 ATS) are, for the moment, sitting pretty in the NFC East. On Sunday, the defending Super Bowl champs will play host to the Seattle Seahawks (1-2 SU & ATS) in an NFL football contest that is set for a 1 PM ET kickoff at Giants Stadium (artificial turf) in East Rutherford, NJ.

Sunday, October 5

BetUS NFL betting odds: NY GIANTS -7, Total 43.5

NOTABLE STAT: Giants are second in NFL in scoring defense (14.3 ppg allowed)

KEY NFL FOOTBALL BETTING TREND: Seattle has played six straight games over the total

In the BetUS NFL football betting odds, the Giants are listed as a seven-point favorite, with a posted total of 43.5 points.

Here are some NFL football betting trends as they relate to this matchup (reflecting numbers going into the 2008 season):

* SEA has covered two of its last six games
* SEA has lost four of its last six games SU
* SEA has played its last six games OVER the total
* SEA has lost four of its last five road games SU
* SEA has covered one of its last five road games
* SEA has played four of its last five road games OVER the total
* NY has covered eight of its last nine games
* NY has won its last seven games SU
* NY has covered two of its last six home games
* NY has lost four of its last six home games SU
* NY has played six of its last eight home games OVER the total

Also…

* SEA is 4-1-1 ATS in the last six meetings
* Four of the last six meetings have gone OVER the total
* NY has won four of the last five meetings SU as the home team

With all the talk about the Dallas Cowboys running away with things in the NFC, somehow the New York Giants seemed to be forgotten. That might be because many people thought the Giants’ upset win over New England in the Super Bowl, which capped off an improbable run of road wins, was a fluke. Don’t underestimate a team that can show such mental toughness. Seattle is a team that is not necessarily at its best when going on the road, losing four of their last five. The Seahawks have dropped their last two by margins of 24 and 22 points, and started this season dangerously short on wide receivers.

But Seattle is getting healthier at that position now, it appears, Bobby Engram and Deion Branch could be back this week, and they would join people like Keary Colbert and Koren Robinson, who have been added to the roster. Tight end John Carlson is making steady progress at the tight end position. And while all this was going on, one of the areas the ‘Hawks concentrated on in the off-season, improving the running game, may be bearing some fruit, as ex-Cowboy Julius Jones has run for 127 and 140 yards the last two weeks.

The Giants have covered eight of their last nine games, and certainly have the elements that could make things uncomfortable for the Seahawks, namely a bruising run game and that vaunted pass rush. But New York, if you recall, was 3-5 SU at the Meadowlands last season, and had life-and-death with Cincinnati last time out. Both teams had a bye last week, but Seattle, with its walking (and not walking) wounded, probably gets more of an advantage from that by getting healthier. Let’s take the points with Seattle, the seven-point underdog in the NFL football betting odds.
