The AFC South first-place Indianapolis Colts travel to Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday afternoon to take on the Philadelphia Eagles, who are a game behind New York in the NFC East. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on CBS.

Indianapolis has survived a slow start and multiple injuries on both sides of the ball to take its record to 5-2 straight-up, leaving it tied with Tennessee atop the AFC South as the season reaches the midway point. The Colts are 4-2-1 against the spread overall and the total has gone ‘over’ in four of their first seven games. Indy is 2-2 SU and 3-1 ATS on the road this season.

Last week, without TE Dallas Clark, who is lost for the season with a wrist injury, and WR Austin Collie, who is out with a hand injury, QB Peyton Manning relied on a whole new set of receivers to help beat the Houston Texans 30-17 last Monday night. Manning once again has this offense ranked near the top of the league in several major categories. They are ranked second in passing yards per game, second in total yards per game, and third in scoring; averaging 27.6 points per game. The only weakness has been their running game, which is ranked 23rd. NFL Betting

Defensively, five players from Indianapolis’s secondary are already on the Injured Reserve list and DT Antonio Johnson and LB Kavell Conner are still hampered with nagging injuries. Despite all the losses, this unit is still ranked 17thoverall and 13th in points allowed; giving up an average of 20.3 per game.

Philadelphia is coming off a bye which could be bad news for the Colts right from the start. The Eagles have never lost a game SU after a bye week in the 11 years Andy Reid has been the head coach. They come into this game at 4-3 SU and 3-4 ATS on the year. Philadelphia has gone 1-2 both SU and ATS at home and the total has gone ‘over’ in four of its first seven games overall.

The Eagles have also been impacted by injuries but they will get two key components of their offense back this week; QB Michael Vick and WR DeSean Jackson. Vick missed the last three games with a rib injury and Jackson was knocked out two weeks ago with a concussion. Overall, Philadelphia has the fifth ranked offense in the league and it is averaging 24.6 points per game.

Philadelphia’s defensive secondary underwent a makeover during the bye week after Titan WR Kenny Britt torched it for 225 yards receiving and three TD’s in the Eagles 37-19 loss to Tennessee in Week 7. CB Ellis Hobbs is out and Dimitri Patterson will take his place. The Eagles’ defense is ranked 13th overall, but 23rd in points allowed; giving up an average of 22.4 per game.

Indianapolis is 4-1 ATS in its last five games as an underdog and 4-1-1 in its last six games overall. Philadelphia is 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a bye but just 2-7 ATS in its last nine home games.

With Vick and Jackson back the Eagles should have enough fire power to stand toe-to-toe with the Colts’ offense but in the end Manning will find a way to pull out a win like he has done so many times before. The best play on this game is actually the ‘over’.

I was surprised how well the Colts played this past Monday with the run on injuries lately. Manning could make a bunch of CFL receivers productive in the NFL, I personally believe. It seems like Indy doesn’t really need the running game (though Joe Addai was showing flashes before his injury, what else is new) to be successful. Addai and Bob Sanders are two very talented Colts that just can’t stay on the field.

The pass-rushing duo of Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis is almost unstoppable right now. The Eagles will have to look out for that and though getting WR Jackson back is a huge help, I like the Colts over the Eagles and like the pick.

As I a diehard Eagle fan I hope we are both wrong, but Peyton Manning has had a great deal of success against Philly in the past and I just do not see that changing in tomorrow’s game.
