The Atlanta Falcons travel to Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday afternoon to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in a battle of first place teams in the NFC. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on Fox.

Atlanta is off to a great start this season and after last week’s 20-10 win over Cleveland as a three-point road favorite, it finds itself atop the NFC South. The Falcons are 4-1 straight-up this season and 3-2 against the spread. They are 2-1 both SU and ATS on the road and the total has stayed ‘under’ in three of their first five games.

Balance throughout this ballclub has been the key to Atlanta’s early success. Offensively, the Falcons are ranked seventh overall behind a solid running game anchored by Michael Turner and Jason Snelling. Turner leads the team with 421 yards on 91 carries. QB Matt Ryan has completed 61.5 percent of his passes for 1165 yards and has thrown seven TD’s against just three interceptions. NFL Betting

Defensively, Atlanta has been even better. It is ranked 10th in yards allowed per game and second in points allowed. The Falcons have played the run extremely well, giving up an average of just 86.6 yards per game. Their only area of weakness has been against the pass where they are ranked 19th, giving up an average of 223.4 yards per game.

Philadelphia has somehow gotten through all the turmoil at the quarterback position to start the season 3-2 SU and 2-3 ATS, keeping it tied with Washington and New York atop the NFL East. Last Sunday night the Eagles upset the San Francisco 49ers 27-24 as a three-point road underdog. The total went ‘over’ the 39 ½ point line. They are 0-2 both SU and ATS at home this season and the total has stayed ‘under’ in three of their first five games.

Injuries have been the big story so far this season for the Eagles. Both their QB’ have knocked out of games; Kevin Kolb with a concussion and Michael Vick with bruised ribs. Kolb will most likely get the start against Atlanta as Vick is still listed as questionable. They have also lost their starting fullback, center, and a defensive tackle for the season and All-Pro LT Jason Peters remains doubtful for this game.

Despite these setbacks, Philadelphia’s offense is still ranked eighth in yards per game and seventh in points per game. Defensively the Eagles have been solid against the pass but are giving up an average of 125.8 yards per game on the ground which plays right into the Falcons’ strength.

The Falcons are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 4-0 ATS in the last four as a road underdog; however they are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games against the Eagles. The favorite is 6-2 ATS in the last eight games between the two and the total has stayed ‘under’ in six of the last seven.
