The Philadelphia Eagles head to Detroit looking for their first win of the 2010 season against a Lions team that lost their opener as well. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. (ET) from Ford Field in Detroit.

These two teams have a lot in common after only one week of the 2010 regular season. They both lost their starting quarterback and the game in Week 1. Philadelphia’s QB Kevin Kolb sat out the second half with a concussion in the Eagles 27-20 loss to Green Bay and is listed as doubtful for this game. Detroit’s QB Mathew Stafford’s separated shoulder knocked him out of the Lions 19-14 loss to Chicago. While the shoulder will not require surgery, he is expected to miss the next few games.

Philadelphia is ready to forge on with Michael Vick as its starter in this game. Last week in relief of Kolb, he threw for 175 yards and one TD and ran for 103 more, almost leading the team back to victory from a 27-10 deficit. The Eagles were a three point home underdog against the Packers and the game stayed just a ½ point ‘under’ the 47 ½ point line.

The Eagles will have to do a better job running the ball against the Lions, given that if you factor out Vick’s yardage they gained less than 50 yards on the ground against Green Bay. Defensively, Philadelphia could be vulnerable to the run if MLB Stewart Bradley is not cleared to play after also suffering a concussion in last week’s game. NFL Betting

Detroit’s main problem in this game will be letting go of the fact that it got robbed of a win after Calvin Johnsons’ apparent game winning touchdown catch late in the game was ruled incomplete when the ball touched the ground in the end zone on his way down. The call was reviewed and deemed correct, but this is one of those ridiculous rules that need to be changed. The Lions were a six point road underdog against the Bears and the total stayed ‘under’ the 43 point line.

Lion QB Shaun Hill will be the starter in this game after filling in admirably when Stafford went down. He will also need a better effort from a running game that only gained 20 yards against Chicago, otherwise the Eagles’ blitz package could make his first start since 2009, when he was with San Francisco, one to forget.

The Eagles have won the last five meetings between these two teams both straight up and against the spread. The last time they played was in 2007 with Philly coming away with a 56-21 victory as a five point home favorite. The last time they played in Detroit was in 2004, with the Eagles winning 30-13 as a 5 ½ point road favorite.

Given that both teams will most likely be starting backup quarterbacks, Philadelphia is in a much better situation than Detroit. The only problem the Eagles face is that if Vick has another strong performance there will be a full blown controversy as to who should be the starter once Kolb is ready to go.
