The Dallas Cowboys will close out an extremely long season when they travel to Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday afternoon to take on the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on FOX.

This will be the third season in a row that Dallas closed out its season against Philadelphia, but for the first time there is nothing on the line for either team. The Eagles have already clinched the NFC East and the third seed in the playoffs and the Cowboys have been out of contention since the leaves were still on the trees.

Last week’s disappointing 27-26 loss to Arizona as a seven-point road favorite could make this game even more meaningless for Dallas as there is a good chance that owner Jerry Jones will clean house this offseason and send interim coach Jason Garrett on his way. Garrett had a chance to prove himself after taking over a 1-7 team, but it remains to be seen whether another win will make a difference in the final decision. The Cowboys are currently 5-10 straight-up and 6-9 against the spread.

Another dilemma facing Dallas in this game is it may have to go with Stephen McGee as the starting quarterback if John Kitna (strained abdomen) is not ready to go. Kitna has actually added a spark to the offense in relief of the injured Tony Romo, throwing for 2,365 yards and 16 touchdowns in his nine starts this year. NFL Betting

Much of the Cowboys’ problems this season have been on the defensive side of the ball. They are currently ranked 23rd overall in the league, but a dismal 31st in points allowed; giving up an average of 28.2 per game. They have been extremely porous against the pass giving up an average of 251.4 yards per game.

It is hard to say who will be playing for Philadelphia this week after last week’s shocking 24-14 loss to Minnesota as a whopping 14 ½-point home favorite ended its chances to lock-up a first round bye. Regardless of the outcome of this game the Eagles will be the third seed in the playoffs and host a Wildcard game next week.

It was bad enough that the Sunday night’s game against the Vikings was postponed until Tuesday night because of snow, but the beating that QB Michael Vick had to endure in an ugly loss only added insult to injury. It is highly doubtful that Andy Reid will let Vick play in this game, so look for Kevin Kolb to get the start.

The other sad state of affairs is the way the Eagles’ defense allowed  Joe Webb, a third-string rookie quarterback who was making his first NFL start, move the ball up and down the field at will. This could be the Achilles Heel that has this team destined for another early exit from the playoffs.

Trends:
Dallas is 2-2 ATS in its last four road games but 5-2 ATS in its last seven games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in an amazing 12 straight games for this team.
Philadelphia is 3-2 ATS in its last five games at home and 4-3 ATS in its last seven games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in 10 of its last 11 games.

Head-to-head, the Cowboys have won four of the last six games SU and is 4-0 ATS in the last four. The Eagles won 30-27 in Week 14 as a 3 ½-point road favorite and the total went ‘over’ the 50 ½-point line. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of the last 10 meetings.

Once both teams decide on their starting quarterback a line will be set, but stick with Dallas no matter what it opens at. The Eagles will be looking to use this game as their bye week to prepare for the playoffs and even though this is a heated rivalry, right now staying healthy is much more important than a win.
