ATS Matchup Report

What was supposed to be a dream season for Philadelphia as turned into a nightmare after a third-straight fourth quarter collapse. The 24-23 loss to San Francisco this past Sunday as a 9.5-point home favorite was the worst yet, considering it led 23-3 halfway through the third quarter.

Opening as favorites in their first four games the Eagles are 1-3 both straight-up and against the spread this season and the total has gone ‘over’ in three of the four games. Turnovers have been one of the main causes for the slow start, as coming into this game they are minus six in that category. Defense has been another major issue as Philadelphia is ranked 16th overall, but 23rd in points allowed and 30th against the run.

Buffalo jumped out to a surprising 3-0 SU start with a couple of amazing come-from-behind victories, but returned to form last week in a 23-20 loss to Cincinnati as a three-point road favorite. The Bills are now 2-2 ATS on the year and the total has gone ‘over’ in all four games. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The fast start can be mostly attributed to an offense that is averaging close to 400 total yards and 33.2 points a game. Seven-year veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick has done a good job so far under center, completing 63.9 percent of his throws for 1,040 yards and nine touchdowns. It also helps to have a receiver like Steve Johnson, who has 24 receptions for 314 yards and three TD’s. Buffalo also has a solid running game led by Fred Jackson’s 369 yards on the ground.

The Eagles are 1-7 ATS in their last eight games as a favorite and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in 10 of their last 11 games on the road.
The Bills are 3-10-1 ATS in their last 14 games as a home underdog and 7-15-1 ATS in their last 23 home games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in their last five games overall.

You have to go with the law of averages in this one, given that in recent memory Philadelphia has never had a four-game losing streak straight-up. Bank on Andy Reid having his team ready to go in this one has the Eagles stop the skid with a big win on the road.

The Pick: Philadelphia 33 vs. Buffalo 24
