Detroit has been one of the early surprises this season with the 3-0 straight-up start. It held off Tampa Bay 27-20 as a one-point road underdog in its opener in a game that went ‘over’ the 42.5-point line. After crushing Kansas City 48-3 as nine-point home favorites, the Lions rallied from 20 points down to knock-off Minnesota 26-23 in overtime as three-point road favorites this past Sunday. Both these games went ‘over’ as well.

All the talent that Detroit has been able to stockpile through high picks in the draft over the past few years are finally starting to pay dividends with an offense that is averaging 33.7 points a game and a defense that is ranked sixth overall.

Dallas started its season with a devastating 27-24 loss to the Jets as a 6.5-point road underdog after two Tony Romo turnovers gift-wrapped the win for New York. Romo redeemed himself the following week by leading the Cowboys to a 27-24 overtime victory over San Francisco as three-point home favorites despite having a broken rib and slight puncture in his lung. This past Monday night they grinded out an 18-16 win over Washington as 3.5-point home favorites. The total stayed ‘under’ the 44-point line, but went ‘over’ in the first two games. Injuries continue to be a major concern especially on the offensive side of the ball. Dallas’s leading receiver Mile Austin remains out of the lineup with a strained hamstring, while Romo, Felix Jones, and Dez Bryant are still nursing nagging injuries but expected to play.

The Lions are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games as an underdog, but they are just 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against the Cowboys. The home team in this series is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings and the total has gone ‘over’ in five of the last six games between the two.

Stick with Dallas this time around to come away with the win as it will be tough to beat at home despite the various injuries to some of its key personnel.

The Pick: Dallas 31      Detroit 28
