An old NFC East rivalry is renewed when the Arizona Cardinals take on the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field this upcoming Sunday afternoon. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast regionally on FOX.

Arizona had its hands full as a seven-point home favorite in its season opener against Carolina, but was able to hold off the Panthers in a 28-21 victory that ended as a ‘push’. The total easily went ‘over’ the 37-point line.

The Cardinals struck first in this game on a seven yard run by Beanie Wells, but actually trailed by seven heading into the fourth quarter. That all changed on two plays with 70-yard touchdown throw from Kevin Kolb to Early Doucet and an 89-yard punt return by rookie cornerback Patrick Peterson that put Arizona in the lead for good. Kolb threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns in his debut with his new team. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Washington looked nothing like last season’s 6-10 squad in its impressive 28-14 victory over the New York Giants as a three-point home underdog. The total in this game went ‘over’ the 37.5-point line. Things were knotted at 14 at the half, but the Redskins 14 unanswered points in the second half proved to be the difference.

Rex Grossman was more than efficient at quarterback, with 305 yards passing and two touchdown throws. He completed 61.8 percent of his passes and more importantly did a good job of taking care of the ball with zero turnovers. The Redskins also got a big day from tight end Fred Davis, who had five receptions for 105 yards.

Arizona is 5-11 against the spread in its last 16 games overall and 1-6 ATS in its last seven games on the road. Washington is 4-1 ATS in its last five games and the total has stayed ‘under’ in six of its last eight games overall.

Head-to-head, the Redskins have won the last five meetings SU at home including a 24-17 victory as a three-point home favorite in 2008, which was the last time these two teams met. Stick with Washington to grind out the win at home, but the Cardinals keep things close enough to cover with the four-point spread.

Betting Trends:

The total has gone OVER in 4 of Arizona’s last 5 games
Arizona is 0-5 SU in its last 5 games on the road
Washington is 1-5 SU in its last 6 games at home
The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Washington’s last 10 games when playing Arizona

The Pick: Washington 17 vs. Arizona 14
