NFC East Game Previews – New York Jets vs. Washington Redskins

Point spread: Jets -3
Over/Under: 38.5

Game time for this inter-conference clash is slated for 1 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast regionally on CBS.

New York’s up-and-down season took a positive turn last Sunday with a 28-24 victory over Buffalo as a 9.5-point home favorite. The much needed win raised its record to 6-5 straight-up (4-7 against the spread) and while a division title does not seem likely, it does keep the team in the hunt for a wildcard spot in the playoffs.

The total went ‘over’ the 42.5-line against the Bills and it has now gone ‘over’ in seven of its 11 games this season.

The Jets’ problems still revolve around an offense that is ranked 24th in the NFL in total yards and a running game that is averaging 100 yards a game. The good news for Sunday’s game is that running back LaDainian Tomlinson and wide receiver Jeremy Kerley returned to practice this week after both players missed time with a knee injury.

Washington snapped a six-game losing streak last Sunday with a come-from-behind 23-17 victory over Seattle as a three-point road underdog. The total went ‘over’ the 37.5-point line, but it has stayed ‘under’ in seven of its previous 10 games this season. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

At 4-7 SU (5-6 ATS) the Redskins are realistically out of playoff contention, but this team is more than capable of beating the Jets if they can get some production from rookie running back Roy Helu and Rex Grossman avoids turning the ball over.

Washington still has a defense that is ranked 11th overall and 10th in points allowed.

New York is 1-5 ATS in its last six road games and the total has gone ‘over’ in five of its last six games as a favorite on the road.

Washington is 2-5 ATS in its last seven games as an underdog. The total has stayed ‘under’ in six of its last eight home games.

The Jets obviously need this game much more than Washington, but the Redskins will not rollover especially at home. Stick with them to cover with the three-points, but do not be surprised if they stun New York with a straight-up win.

The Pick: New York 24 vs. Washington 23
