NFC East Game Previews – New England Patriots vs Philadelphia Eagles

The New England Patriots will try and raise their 2011 record against the NFC East to over .500 after a 1-1 start, when they invade Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday afternoon to face the Philadelphia Eagles.

Date/Time: Sunday, Nov. 27    4:15 p.m. (ET)
Venue: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA.
Broadcast: CBS

Point spread: Patriots -3
Over/Under: OFF

The game is set to get underway at 4:15 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on CBS.

New England was finally able to create some separation in the AFC East with back-to-back victories over the New York Jets and Kansas City. It is now 7-3 straight-up (6-4 against the spread) and two games ahead of both New York and Buffalo in the division. The total has gone an even 5-5 in its 10 games.

Everyone is well aware of Tom Brady and the Patriot offense’s ability to put points on the board. Last Monday night’s 34-3 pasting of the Chiefs as 17-point home favorites coupled with their 37-16 win over the Jets as 2.5-point road underdogs the week before snapped a three-game slump where they averaged less than 20 points a game.

Philadelphia’s season-saving 17-10 victory over the Giants last Sunday night as a six-point road underdog could actually end-up being a band aid on a gaping wound. At 4-6 both SU and ATS, it would probably have to win out over the next six weeks and hope that both Dallas and New York stumble a few more times along the way. The total over the course of its first 10 games has also gone an even 5-5. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The big question for Sunday’s game is the availability of Michael Vick, who missed last week’s game with broken ribs. Vince Young shook-off some early rust to lead the Eagles to Sunday’s come-from-behind victory in his place, but it will most likely come down to a game-time decision as to which quarterback gets the start.

The Patriots are 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record. The total has gone ‘over’ in 10 of their last 14 games on the road.

The Eagles are 1-7 ATS in their last eight games at home and the total has stayed ‘under’ in six of their last eight home games.

These two teams last met in 2007 with New England outlasting the Eagles 31-28 as 24-point home favorites. Expect a close contest this time around as well with the Eagles’ defense keeping them in the game until the end. The result will also be the same, just with a much lower score.

The Pick: New England 24 vs. Philadelphia 21
