Tom Brady and company haven’t been far away from winning it all in the past few years, but they just haven’t quite gotten over the hump.

Brady is still one of the best signal callers in the league. He will be 36 years old at the beginning of this season, so the window may be closing on the Tom Brady led Patriots era, but it certainly isn’t shut yet. Brady is the prototypical dropback passer and as long as he is protected well, he can be very good for a few more years.

New England went 12-4 during the regular season last year, so there is a lot to like about this team. The 2012 Patriots offense racked up a whopping 557 points during the regular season, which was good for third most all time. The fast-paced offense that keeps defenses on their heels still hasn’t been figured out by the NFL. The 2012 Patriots offense picked up 444 first downs, which easily broke the record for most first downs in a season by an offense. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

This year’s team will look a little different without slot receiver Wes Welker working the middle of the field, but Tom Brady should still have quite a few options to get the ball to. Rob Gronkowski needs to come back and be healthy for this team to be at its best.

New England actually improved quite a bit on the defensive side of the ball last year. The Patriots have used quite a few draft picks recently to try to shore up their defense, and it seems to be working. The one spot that is still a minor weakness is the secondary. New England doesn’t have that great cover corner, and their depth in the secondary isn’t anything special either.

The Patriots found a reliable runner in Stevan Ridley last year, and that takes pressure off the passing game. Interestingly, New England will start and finish their season against the Buffalo Bills this year. In the second to last week of the year, the Patriots will be in Baltimore to face the Ravens in what should be a great game.

The Patriots have as good of a shot as anyone at getting through the mess that is the AFC. At +700, there is definitely some value on the Patriots to win the Super Bowl.
