N.Y vs. San Francisco Conference Championship Prediction

A trip to Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis is up for grabs this Sunday afternoon when the NFC’s No.4-seed New York Giants clash with the No.2-seed San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick Park in this season’s conference championship.

Giants vs 49ers by BetOnline.com
Point spread: 49ers -2
Over/Under: 42

The kick-off is slated for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on FOX.

New York earned a trip back to the NFC Championship by first knocking-off Atlanta 24-2 as a three-point home favorite in the Wildcard Round before stunning Green Bay 37-20 last Sunday as an eight-point road underdog in the Divisional Round. The Giants improved to 10-7-1 against the spread overall . They are 6-3 ATS on the road with the total going ‘over’ in six of the nine games.

Momentum has to be a key factor for the Giants coming into this game with four straight dominating victories dating back to Week 16 of the regular season. Everything is clicking right now with Eli Manning playing at a high level on offense to go along with a defense that has given-up an average of just 12.5 points over this four-game stretch.

San Francisco needed a last-second touchdown pass from Alex Smith to Vernon Davis to get past New Orleans 36-32 in the Divisional Round as a 3.5-point home underdog. The win pushed the 49ers record at Candlestick this season to an impressive 8-1 SU and a highly profitable 8-0-1 ATS. The total has gone 5-4 in their nine home games. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Look for first-year Head Coach Jim Harbaugh to get back to basics on Sunday with a heavy dose of Frank Gore running the ball to go along with a shutdown defense that ended the regular season ranked fourth in total yards allowed and second in points allowed.

The Giants are a perfect 7-0 ATS in their last seven playoff games on the road and 7-1 ATS in their last eight postseason games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in seven of their last nine playoff games.

The 49ers are 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 games against the NFC and 19-6-3 ATS in their last 28 games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in 12 of their last 17 conference games.

Head-to-head, San Francisco beat New York 27-20 in Week 10 this season as a four-point home favorite, but the Giants are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings. The favorite in this series is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings and the home team is 5-2 ATS in the last seven. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of the last five games.

This game has all the makings of an ‘instant classic’ as both teams come in playing at a high level, but Manning’s experience on the big stage proves to once again be the difference as the Giants advance to Super Bowl XLVI with the straight-up win.

The Pick: New York 27      San Francisco 24
