Raiders

The Oakland Raiders look for their first win of the season Sunday but the task is a monumental one – marching into CenturyLink and defeating the defending champs is an unenviable task to say the least!

That said the Seahawks have looked vulnerable the last four weeks. Does it mean that this game is destined to become one of the upsets of the decade?

Or will Seattle’s win in Carolina last week be the catalyst for this team to finally resemble the dominant squad we saw in 2013? Let’s take a look.

The oddsmakers aren’t giving the Raiders a lotta love – are they? A 15 point underdog is massive!

The Raiders have lost 13 straight games dating back to last season but they do have a reason for optimism going forward and his name is Derek Carr who, despite making his share of rookie mistakes, looks like the answer to a Raiders question two decades in the making.

Despite losing 23-13 last week against Cleveland, Carr threw for 328 yards and was the reason that the Raiders were even in that game.

Carr has shown the ability to rack up some strong numbers and demonstrated a decent knowledge already of what defenses will give him – he hit nine different receivers last Sunday – his Tight End Mychal Rivera led the way last week, Andre Holmes has been very good at times and James Jones has been a solid stabilizing factor for the rookie.

Carr may have a chance to shine in this game – the Seahawks pass defense hasn’t exactly looked like that elite squad we have come to know.

Carr may have to shine for the Raiders – Seattle’s run defense ranks sixth in the league – Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew look like no match for the Hawks run stopping unit.

Defensively the Raiders are still pretty bad – they allow 131 yards per game on the ground and the pass defense hasn’t been a ton better allowing nearly 275 yards per game the last month.

With Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch staring them in the face, it is hard to imagine the Raiders defense doing much against Seattle.

Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks got the win last week in Carolina but it wasn’t all that pretty. Perhaps the biggest thing that came out of that win was Seattle’s ability to slow Cam Newton and the Panthers offense down.

Still, teams are throwing on the Hawks with little fear – Richard Sherman has yet to intercept a pass and the Hawks are near the bottom of the NFL in forced turnovers – crazy!

A date with Oakland has been the cure for many teams however – look for Seattle to build on perhaps their best defensive effort of the season.

Seattle’s offense has looked a tad out of sync lately as well but don’t blame Russell Wilson.

Wilson has been out of his mind lately – he is averaging over 300 yards passing and 70 yards rushing per game the last two weeks and he has five combined TDs (three passing, 2 rushing) over that span.

Doug Baldwin has made everyone forget about Percy Harvin – his emergence has to be a confidence boost for this team.

Seattle will have a chance to get Marshawn Lynch going this week – he should be the focal point of the offense. Lynch has been in a controversy storm, and his play hasn’t silenced his critics.

He has failed to score in three games and hasn’t hit the century mark in rushing since Week 1!

For the Hawks to be successful Lynch has to be the man – against a weak Oakland front, he has a shot to get back on track.

NFL Week 9 Betting Trends

• OAK are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games in Week 9.
• OAK are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
• Under is 6-2 in SEA last 8 home games.
• Over is 14-5 in SEA last 19 games in November.
• SEA are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games in November.
• Home team is 8-0 ATS in their last 8 meetings.
• Over is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings in Seattle.

The Seattle Seahawks are 0-3 ATS at home this season – teams are playing them tough at CenturyLink.

NFL Week 9 Betting Prediction

I like that trend to continue this week.

Pick: Oakland raiders to cover the 15 points

The Hawks will win but 15 points is just too much. This looks like a 24-14 game to me.
