The Cardinals have looked good this season despite being forced to use three different quarterbacks while the Raiders – they looked better in their first game under interim coach Tony Sporano but came up shot again last week against San Diego.

Is Oakland’s first will in 10 months on the horizon or are the ascending Cardinals the latest to take the doormats Raiders down?

Cardinals

Arizona has, outside of the Dallas Cowboys and perhaps the Philadelphia Eagles, been the nicest surprise in the NFL this season. Their only loss came at the hands of Denver – no shame in that! After a 30-20 win against Washington, the Carson Palmer led Cards will look to stay atop the NFC West standings (did I just say that???) this Sunday.

Carson Palmer surprisingly returned from injury in Week 6 but clearly isn’t quite 100% yet. Still he threw for 250 yards and two TDs Sunday on 28 of 44 passing and he even got Larry Fitzgerald into the end zone for the first time in eight games. Fitz ended up with 98 yards on the day and scored for the first time since last year – amazing!

The Cards will likely have to lean on the passing game again this week – the running game is stuck in neutral… again! Arizona ranks 29th in the NFL in rushing – just 85.6 yards per game and they are coming off a 74 yard effort against a horrendous Washington run stopping unit. No big deal though – the Cards have enough firepower in the passing attack to more than get things done against Oakland’s brutal defense.

Arizona’s defense has been surprisingly bad against the pass this year – 309 yards allowed per game. Shocking I know. The Cards go up against Derek Carr who lit up the fifth ranked Chargers defense last week. Interesting indeed. It’s a good thing for the Cards’ third ranked run defense – they should be able to shut down Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew.

Raiders

The Oakland Raiders actually represented themselves very well last week against San Diego – they pushed the Chargers to the end and had a realistic chance to gain their first win of the year.

The good news for Oakland has been the emergence of Derek Carr who looks like their answer at QB. He will experience some growing pains but he is proving to be the only thing right for the Raiders right now. Carr threw for 282 yards and four TDs against a fifth ranked Chargers pass defense last week and gave the team a chance to win.

The Raiders are going to have to throw – their running backs won’t do much against Arizona’s stout run defense.

NFL Week 7 Betting Trends

• ARI are 10-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
• ARI are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games overall.
• ARI are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games on grass.
• OAK are 2-6-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
• Over is 6-2-1 in OAK last 9 games on grass.
• Under is 21-8 in OAK last 29 games in October.

It’s awfully tempting to take the Raiders and Derek Carr to pull the upset here.

NFL Week 7 Betting Prediction

But my bet is Carson Palmer marching up and down the field against a bad Oakland defense and for the underachieving pass defense to do enough in the end. Arizona is just too good a team to lose to a team like the lowly Raiders.
