NFL Division Preview – AFC South

In our quest to be the ONLINE LEADER in NFL Gambling & NFL Handicapping information we’re way out ahead of the rest with our 2010 Divisional Previews for all 8 NFL divisions.

We will be covering the entire off season for each team and giving you a preview of the upcoming 2010 season with updates from now through kickoff of Week 1 of the NFL 2010/2011 Season.

The lines are out for the early favorites to win each NFL Division and it is not too early to start considering your NFL Futures bets. After all, you just may find that your fave is good value right now.

The AFC South appears to be an improved division with Houston, Tennessee and Jacksonville all making strides toward improvement. But as the oddsmakers reflect, the NFL Futures are very similar to NFL past.

Indianapolis Colts: -155

The Indianapolis Colts have the luxury or returning the same team that lost in last year’s Super Bowl. There have been very few changes on a team that challenged to finish last year’s Regular Season undefeated.

Peyton Manning returns healthy as does stud receiver Anthony Gonzalez. Manning, Gonzalez, Reggie Wayne, Austin Collie, Pierre Garcon and Dallas Clark still make up arguably the best passing in the NFL.

Bob Sanders is back healthy as well, ready to bolster a defense that boasts names like Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, Marlin Jackson and Kelvin Hayden.

The Indianapolis Colts are overwhelming favorite to win the AFC South but NHL Futures bets on this team are as sure a thing as there is in NFL wagering. Elite teams just may have the formula to beat this team but the Texans, Titans and Jaguars are far from elite.

Houston Texans: +350

For the fourth year in a row, the Houston Texans are a sexy pick to take the next step and become contenders in the AFC South. Matt Schaub ripped up the NFL last year and with Andre Johnson and a healthy Owen Daniels on the roster, the Texans’  passing attack will be feared once again. But outside of Johnson and Daniels, Schaub doesn’t really have anyone to throw to.

The Texans’  running game did little to improve itself (no runner on the Texans eclipsed 450 yards last season) but newly drafted Ben Tate and a healthy Steve Slaton will hopefully give the offense something that they can depend on.

The Texans have an up and coming defense with Overall 1st Round Draft Choice of a few years ago, Mario Williams anchoring a decent squad.

The loss of Daunta Robinson to free Agency and the suspension of Brian Cushing will hurt the Texans just enough to make them less serious threats to Indy. The Texans are poised to finish second in the division but nowhere near the Indianapolis Colts.

Tennessee Titans: +350

The Tennessee Titans came on strong last year toward the end of the season, re-instilling some confidence in Coach Jeff Fisher`s squad. They won eight of their last ten games in 2009 and looked good in the process.

Chris Johnson is presently holding out for a new contract – not good, and whispers out of Tennessee are that if and when he returns, his touches will be more limited this year and that the Texans would love to share the work a little more readily.

Vince Young had a bounce back season last year but it is difficult not to think of him as a third or fourth tier quarterback.

To place your NFL Futures bets on the Titans winning their division is futile at best. They are still weak at Wide Receiver and their defense does not scare anybody anymore. A third place finish is likely.

Jacksonville Jaguars: +900

The Jacksonville Jaguars made little or no effort to improve their average team. Sure Maurice Jones Drew is a Stud and can carry a team alone, but his supporting cast is a “C+“ at best.

David Gerrard is OK and Mike Sims-Walker may have a good year but without a defense, Jacksonville will not be able to compete. Their sack leader last year had a total of three! Not good!

As long as Indianapolis has a guy named Peyton Manning on their roster, they will be favored to win. Indy is in the elite class of NFL teams while the others in the division are a tier or two below.

Place your NFL Futures bets on Indianapolis to win their division with confidence – their time isn’t nearly up!

I’m just freakin out here!

My keeper picks are due in soon, and I have no idea who to keep. Beyond MJD, I’ve got mendenhall, jamaal charles and tom brady. I can only keep 3.

How come you don’t see mendenhall being in your top 20 this year?

Thanks
V
