2014 NFL Week 1 Gambling Picks Against the Spread

Week 1 Predictions

The draft is over, the rookie mini-camps are in the books and mandatory mini camps have begun – the business of football is back into full swing – thankfully.

In April, Vegas came out with the points spreads for all of the Week 1 games – it’s never too early to take a peek at those odds and identify some intriguing games on the upcoming sched.

Let’s take a peek at every game in Week 1 and what could play out.

Need a football fix?

Here it is! NFL Week 1 point spreads from sportsbook.ag

9/4 8:35 ET At Seattle -5.5 Green Bay; Total 44.5

The Football Gods have blessed us with a rematch of the “Fail Mary” game as the defending champs take in a team that should be drastically improved heading into 2014. The World Champion banner will be lifted – imagine the noise! Expect the home team to rise to the occasion and kick their season off in style. This looks like a 20-13 game to me!

Pick: Seattle -5.5

9/7 1:00 ET At Atlanta -1.5 New Orleans; Total 52

There is no doubt that Atlanta will be better than they were last year – they absolutely have to be. But with Julio Jones looking iffy to start the season and the New Orleans Saints looking better on paper than they were last year, I expect a Saints win in a high scoring game. Pick: Saints +1.5 and take a look at the Over

9/7 1:00 ET At St. Louis -5 Minnesota; Total 46

The Rams have a lot to prove this year! With the Viking entering the season as a one trick pony (Adrian Peterson) and with St. Louis’s defense threatening to become one of the best in the NFL this year, expect a statement game in St. Louis! Pick: Rams -5

9/7 1:00 ET At Pittsburgh -5 Cleveland; Total 41

Johnny Manzeil gets his first taste of an NFL defense in Week 1 with an aging receiving corp. and an unsettled running back situation. Johnny Football learns a good lesson in Week 1 as the Steelers take it to the Browns. Pick: Steelers -5

9/7 1:00 ET At Philadelphia -11 Jacksonville; Total 52

The Eagles have the honor of facing the Jags in Week 1 in what should be the blowout of the week. No DeSean Jackson – no problem! Jacksonville starts what is bound to be a very long season with a humbling loss. Pick: Eagles -11

9/7 1:00 ET At NY Jets -4.5 Oakland; Total 39.5

Do you really think Gino Smith is going to start over Michael Vick? Me neither! Oakland is in an all-too-familiar rebuilding mode – Matt Schaub isn’t even close to the answer! Oakland will be Oakland and The Jets bandwagon gets a small uptick early in the season. Pick: Jets -4.5

9/7 1:00 ET At Baltimore -2.5 Cincinnati; Total 43.5

AFC North battle has intrigue for sure. The Ravens will be out to erase an ugly 2013 but they run into a Bengals team that took a step forward last year. With Ray Rice staring at a suspension and the Ravens looking very much like the team that fell flat last year I like the Bengals to pull a minor upset. Pick: Bengals +2.5

9/7 1:00 ET At Chicago -6.5 Buffalo; Total 49

Buffalo is a sexy pick to have a breakout year in 2014 and they get a leaky Chicago defense right off the bat. While I think Chicago wins, I think Buffalo keeps it respectable here. Sammy Watkins, Bryce Brown and a strong rushing attack gives Chicago fits and allows Buffalo to cover. Pick: Bills +6.5

9/7 1:00 ET At Houston -2.5 Washington; Total 46.5

It is hard to believe that Houston is favored after their horrendous season last year! But in this game they should be healthy and they get to go up against an awful Washington defense that did little to improve during the offseason. I wish the Texans were an underdog here – I still like them to win by a field goal here. Pick: Texans -2.5

9/7 1:00 ET At Kansas City -5.5 Tennessee; Total 44

I’m not exactly sure what the Titans are going to look like on offense this year, Can you name 4 guys on the offensive side of the ball for Tennessee? Me neither! At Arrowhead you have to love the Chiefs to kick off their season in style. Pick: Chiefs -5.5

9/7 1:00 ET New England -3.5 At Miami; Total 47

The Fins simply don’t have the horses to compete with the Pats this year. New England was good and they improved this offseason while the Fins were average and may have gotten worse! Pick: Patriots -3.5

9/7 4:25 ET Carolina -2.5 At Tampa Bay; Total 41

It’s going to be yet another long season for Tampa Bay. Consider the Bucs an early, early Christmas present for Carolina in Week 1! Pick: Panthers -2.5

9/7 4:25 ET San Francisco -3.5 At Dallas; Total 48

Another offseason, another few months of doing absolutely nothing to improve the team for Dallas! Everyone will blame Romo as per usual – but it won’t be his fault. Dallas will be humbled in Week 1 in a worst-possible matchup imaginable. Pick: 49ers -3.5

9/7 8:30 ET At Denver -7 Indianapolis; Total 55.5

What a delicious way to end Week 1. The Broncos have a ton to prove and should come out firing in Week 1. New weapons on the defensive side of the ball could make a huge difference for Denver right off the bat. Denver gets up early and Ware and Talib seal the deal in a relatively easy win! Pick: Broncos -7
