Season Over/Under Win Total Betting Odds From beted.com – 7

Everyone in Denver needs to take a deep breath. The franchise QB is gone, the new guy is in place and boy-coach Josh McDaniels has to find a way to make it all work.

For years the Broncos’ biggest off-season problem was finding the next 1,000-yard runner; the fans aren’t used to drama.

Kyle Orton replaces you-know-who behind center, and Broncos fans may be surprised to know that last season in Chicago, Orton amassed almost 3,000 yards despite throwing to mediocre receivers on a team playing a very difficult schedule. And his Bears still almost made the playoffs.

But Orton is just one of a boatload of changes. betED More than half the defensive starters are gone from a team that gave up the most points in the AFC last season, and new defensive coordinator Mike Nolan plans to install a 3-4 defense.

McDaniels had nothing to do with Denver’s late-season collapse last year, but the heat will be on early to produce. It won’t be easy. Early in the season Denver faces the following 5-game stretch: Dallas, New England, San Diego, Baltimore and Pittsburgh. Fun.

Surprising stat: At various points of the 2008 season, Denver had the following records: 3-0, 4-1, 6-4 and 8-5.

Team strengths: There is great depth at running back with newcomers J.J. Arrington, LaMont Jordan, Corell Buckhalter and Darius Walker. But the pressure will build to give rookie Knowshon Moreno a lot of touches to see if he’s the next Terrell Davis. Look for Denver to establish the run early to take heat off Orton. Champ Bailey is still the best DB in the business.

Team Weakness: If McDaniels loses the locker room, it will be a brutal season in the Rockies. All eyes will be on Orton, but if the defense doesn’t improve by at least 20 percent this season, what the QB does won’t matter. If Brandon Marshall stays, will be put up numbers similar to last year’s, or poison the locker room, or both?

New head coach, Josh McDaniels hasn’t coached one single game yet and has been involved in enough drama to last a season. He needs to get control of this team and move forward with the players that are there.
