Texas Christian’s offensive output last week absolutely resembled the college basketball team (82 points!

I just had to type it) and they’ll look to come anything marginally close to duplicating that success. Associated Press Top 25-ranked West Virginia will surely have different ideas in its home state.

The Horned Frogs scored more points last week than some teams score in the bulk of a season. It was a truly outstanding performance and won that vaulted TCU into the national discussion.

The Top 10 ranking doesn’t hurt, either.

West Virginia seems to be playing with house money after it was picked to finish near the bottom of the heap in the Big 12 Conference and instead have a shot at the conference crown.

It’s an upcoming game with broad implications for both teams.

College GameDay is coming to Morgantown this week, which only adds to the publicity of this match-up.

It will hinge on the continued strong performance of TCU pivot Trevone Boykin, especially after strong backup QB Matt Joeckel is out for the season with a leg injury.

The Frogs absolutely crushed Texas Tech last week (82-27), and it was largely thanks to Boykin’s 433 passing yards and ridiculous seven TDs.

One thing is certain: TCU can expect more defensive push-back from West Virginia than it got against Tech.

The Mountaineers aren’t content with merely exceeding expectations. On the strength of underrated starting QB Clint Trickett, a transfer from Florida State, West Virginia has cruised to a 6-2 record, going 4-1 in the Big 12.

The senior QB from Tallahassee has put up an excellent 2,763 pass yards and kept it company with 17 TDs. West Virginia’s running game is divided capably between sophomores Rushel Shell and Wendell Smallwood.

WVU’s defense is only average (55th nationally), but that’s still considerably better than what Texas Tech brought to the table last week in Fort Worth. It’s safe to say there won’t be 80+ points scored by one team in this contest.

It still should be a high-octane affair. Trickett can air it out with the best of them and Boykin has clearly been electric. West Virginia is on a four-game win streak and the Mountaineers have eclipsed 30 points in all those games.

The Horned Frogs only loss was another hoops-style game, which they dropped to Baylor, 62-58. Not surprisingly, TCU leads the nation in points scored. The defense is solid, and the victory over #4 Oklahoma on Oct. 4 really resonates.

Something has to give in the Appalachian Mountains this weekend. West Virginia has played like a great ballclub, and the home fans in Morgantown are very spirited (pun intended).

All the same, the Horned Frogs have looked truly strong in 2014.

4* NCAAF Score Prediction: TCU 41, West Virginia 35

The Mountaineers should pose a valiant challenge, but I see TCU headed back to Texas with another win on its slate.
