Michigan had to beat Maryland last week to become bowl eligible, as it’s extremely unlikely they’ll pull off the upset on the road against the Buckeyes who are still trying to fight for a spot in the playoffs.

The Wolverines are a mess, but I’ll be betting on them to cover against the spread for several reasons. To start, Michigan plays the Buckeyes tough every year and the last time they won by double digits was 2010.

Michigan beat the Buckeyes in 2011, but OSU has won the last years although both games ended within a TD. The fact the Wolverines are fighting for their bowl life as well will give them added motivation.

It’s going to be a struggle for Michigan to put up many points. The Wolverines only score 20.3 PPG (115th) while averaging 162.8 PYPG (116th) and 166.6 RYPG (63rd). OSU also has one of the best defenses.

The Buckeyes only allow 22.5 PPG (30th), 147.8 RYPG (41st) and 182.5 PYPG (15th). Smith and Green both need to run well for Michigan in this one in order to keep the explosive OSU offense off the field.

Ohio State comes into this game with one of the best offenses in the nation. The Buckeyes are averaging 44.3 PPG (5th), 259.6 RYPG (14th) and 251.7 PYPG (49th). They have a very balanced attack this year.

J.T. Barrett has put up great numbers including 33 passing TD’s and 9 rushing TD’s. Devin Smith hasn’t had many receptions this year, but he has turned his 25 catches into 8 receiving TD’s so far this season.

The strong point for Michigan this year has been their defense. The Wolverines are allowing opponents to average just 20.6 PPG (21st), 107.2 RYPG (9th) and 194.6 PYPG (23rd), which has kept them in games.

OSU has an offense that can score a lot of points, but they aren’t overly explosive. They’re willing to grind out wins by utilizing their run game behind their big o-line and I expect them to run a lot in this one.

Free NCAAF Pick: Michigan Wolverines vs. Ohio State Buckeyes

OSU will win this game at home, as they aren’t about to ruin their season by losing to lowly Michigan in a huge rivalry game. These teams hate each other though and I expect Michigan to keep it close.

Michigan Wolverines +21 (-110)

With the way the Wolverines have played on defense this season I trust them to keep this close. I don’t expect OSU to score 40+ points in this one. If OSU is held to 34 points or less Michigan will cover.
