Colorado State Rams 2015 NCAA Football Gambling Odds & Predictions

2015-16 Football Previews – (MWC) – Rams

Another new era is beginning in 2015 for the Colorado State Rams during the 2015 NCAA Football Season – the Mike Bobo era. With the departure of Jim McElwain to Florida after three seasons, the former Georgia Offensive Coordinator was brought in to keep the Rams on the upswing in the ever-competitive Mountain West Conference.

And seeing his resume at UGA, Rams fans should be very excited about what Bobo brings to the table.

Another big storyline that will be overdone is the loss of QB Garrett Grayson, who was a big part of the offensive explosion over the last two seasons for the Rams. And while the Bobo and Grayson stories will continue during camp, it will all change when kickoff finally arrives.

And the storyline will then shift to how good the offense still is.

Let’s break down the team’s strengths and weaknesses in 2015.

Team Strengths

Rams fans have a lot to be excited about this season. After a huge year from the receiving corps last in 2014-15, the team is returning all three of its top pass catchers, including All-American Rashard Higgins. It will be a big test to see if his successful 2014 season was more because of his ability or because of Grayson, but even if a drop off comes after a 1,750 yard season, it couldn’t possibly hurt that badly.

The Rams receivers are being touted not only as one of the best position groups in the mid-major level, but of any school in college football, period.

The team is returning a lot of starters across the board, including 3 offensive linemen (and 2 others with a few starts under their belt) and all but one member of the starting defensive secondary. Bobo and his new coaches should have a much easier time implementing their changes with this much experience waiting for instruction.

Team Weaknesses

The loss of Grayson is going to hurt no matter how you look at it. And while the backups are more than qualified to step in and deliver passes to this talented group, it will be hard to match Grayson’s efficiency numbers from last season. If Bobo can make a couple tweaks to whoever is named starter, it could be a non-issue. If he doesn’t adjust to his new QB, though, things could get dangerous quickly.

The lack of a pass rush was a huge problem last season for the Rams. The defense as a whole had a big issue with stopping high powered offenses last season, but if there is nobody in the backfield to cause havoc, those issues will continue for the defense as a whole. The defensive line NEEDS to improve and improve quickly if they want to be able to hold teams in big games.

2015-16 Colorado State Rams Prediction: 8-4

You have to be realistic about the big changes this team underwent in the offseason. Bringing in a brand new coaching staff and losing your super efficient QB is going to hurt no matter what. The question is whether or not the Rams will be able to minimize the drop off that could come from it.

The talent is there. But can they put it together in a new scheme in one offseason and still keep up in the conference? Absolutely.
