Arizona’s Derrick Williams will return to close to home in Anaheim looking to help led his Wildcat’s  passed  No. 1 seed Duke, who is just four wins away from repeating as national champions, in the West regional semifinals Thursday night.

No. 5 seed Arizona, who remain the last Pac-10 team standing, can win its first national title since 1997 with four victories of its own.

The Wildcats’ are still alive in large part to the superb play of Williams who is now 2-for-2 in game-saving plays in the tournament.

The Pac-10 Player of the Year blocked a potential tying bucket in the final seconds to help his  ‘Cats sneak past Memphis 77-75, and then followed up with a three-point play with just under 10 seconds remaining to lift Zona to a 70-69 win over Texas on Sunday.

Williams led the charge with a team-high 17 points, including 14 in the second half while Jordin Mayes and Solomon Hill chipped in with 16 apiece. Mayes drained four of the Wildcats’ eight three-pointers down the stretch to complete the assault.

The win advanced the ‘Cats to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2009 and 13th time in school history.

As for the Blue Devils, head coach Mike Krzyzewski notched his the 900th victory of his Hall of Fame career, moving to within just two wins of Bobby Knight for the most wins in Division I history, as the defending champs survived a scrap with Michigan in the waning seconds of Sunday’s round three tilt.

Nolan Smith scored 24 points while Kyle Singler added 13 for the Blue Devils who shot 51 percent, and are headed to the round of 16 for the 12th time in 14 years.

Kyrie Irving and Ryan Kelly finished with 11 points as the Blue Devils’ bench outscored Michigan 28-16.

A win is a win, but teetering that close to elimination has to raise a few eyebrows, as the Wolverines were able hang around for much of the contest, outscoring Duke 28-15 to finish the game.

If the Wildcats want to pull off the upset, they must play solid defensively. An area that has been a concern all season as they finished ranking 248th in the country in field goal percentage defense at 44.5 percent. Luckily, Arizona has been able to counter their poor defensive traits on 47 percent shooting – good for 29th in the nation.

Recent CBB Betting Trends:

Under is 11-4 in DUKE last 15 overall.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Duke brings a lot of experience to Southern California with Smith and Singler on the floor and Krzyzewski behind the bench. I expect the Devils to be just one win closer to defending their title when the final buzzer sounds in this one.
