The Syracuse Orange will look to avoid a season sweep at the hands of the Georgetown Hoyas in this Saturday afternoon Big East showdown. Tip-off from the Verizon Center is set for 12 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on CBS.
Syracuse has won three straight including an important 69-64 victory over No.14 Villanova this past Monday as a 3 ½-point road underdog. The Orange are now 23-6 straight-up overall but just 11-16 against the spread. They are 3 ½-games behind Pittsburgh in the Big East standings at 10-6 SU.
The big three for this team consists of Kris Joseph, Rick Jackson, and Scoop Jardine. Joseph leads the scoring with 14.7 points a game and Jackson is the leading rebounder with 11 a game. Syracuse is shooting 46.7 percent from the field and averaging 73 points a game. One area of concern has been their performance at the foul line where the Orange are only converting 65.8 percent of their attempts.
Georgetown has dropped two of its last three games including a 58-46 loss to Cincinnati as a 6 ½-point home favorite this past Wednesday night. This loss leaves the Hoyas at 21-7 SU and 15-12 ATS. They are tied with Syracuse in the conference with a 10-6 SU record in Big East play.
Austin Freeman leads a trio of players scoring in double-figures with an average of 17.8 points a game. Chris Wright is the second leading scorer with 13.1 points a game and leads the team in assists with 5.4 while Julian Vaughn has a team-high 6.3 rebounds a game. Georgetown is averaging 73 points and 34 rebounds a game. Its 48.9 percent shooting from the field is eighth-best in the nation.
The Hoyas beat Syracuse 64-56 earlier in the season as a five-point road underdog and will complete the sweep at home in a nail-biter.
