The Illinois Fighting Illini will try and add a much needed quality win to their resume this Tuesday night when they tangle with the Purdue Boilermakers in West Lafayette. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally of ESPN.

Illinois has struggled to find any kind of consistency over the second half of the regular season with just five wins in its last 13 games. It has lost three of its last five games starting with an 81-70 loss to Purdue on Feb.13 as a 2 ½-point home favorite. The Illini do however come into this game fresh off an 81-68 victory over Iowa as an 11-point home favorite this past Saturday.

They have an overall record of 18-11 straight-up (14-14-1 against the spread) and are 8-8 SU in conference play. It will most likely take a win in this game and a very strong showing in the Big Ten Conference Tournament to have any chance at a receiving a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Senior guard Demetri McCamey leads a trio of Illinois players scoring in double-figures with 14.7 points. He also leads the team in assists with 6.2 and has 3.3 rebounds a game. Senior forward Mike Davis is the second leading scorer with 12.1 points and is averaging a team-high 6.9 rebounds a game. Senior center Mike Tisdale rounds out the veteran group with 10.2 points and 6.4 rebounds a game. The Illini are shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 39.2 percent from three-point range. They are averaging 72 points and 35 rebounds a game.

Purdue ran its current winning streak to six games with a 20-point 67-47 romp over Michigan State this past Sunday as a one-point road underdog. The streak also includes a 70-62 victory over No.12 Wisconsin as a 4 ½-point home favorite on Feb.16 and an even more impressive 76-63 romp over Ohio State as a one-point home favorite on Feb.20. The Boilermakers are now 24-5 SU overall (18-8 ATS) and just one game in back of the Buckeyes in the Big Ten standings at 13-3 SU.

Senior forward-center JaJuan Johnson and senior guard E’Twaun Moore continue to provide the majority of the offense for Purdue this season. Johnson leads the team with 20.4 points and 8.1 rebounds while Moore is averaging 18.5 points and 5.3 rebounds a game. Junior guard Lewis Jackson is averaging a team-high 3.9 assists a game and is third in scoring with 7.9 points a game.

The Boilermakers are averaging 73 points a game but are ranked 151st in the nation in rebounds with 35. They are shooting 45.4 percent from the field and 37.7 percent from three point range. Purdue has been less than stellar from the foul-line; converting on 71.9 percent of its attempts.

Trends

Illinois is 2-2-1 ATS in its last five games on the road and 1-3-1 in its last five games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of its last five games.
Purdue is 5-0 ATS in its last five home games and 6-0 ATS in its last six games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in five of its last eight games.
Head-to-head, the Boilermakers have won the last four games SU including the 11-point victory in late February. They are 3-1 ATS and the total has gone ‘over’ in all four games.

These teams are headed in opposite directions as Purdue continues to roll with a dominating win at home while the Illini are reduced to setting their sights on the NIT.

The Pick: Purdue -8 ½
