George Washington Colonials vs. Memphis Tigers Gambling & NCAA Handicapping Prediction

NCAA Tournament – Colonials vs Tigers Pick

The Tigers finished the season right about where we expected, near the top of the new AAC. This is a team that can be dangerous at times but still too often seems to not live up to the assumed talent level. [ad-4468020]

Memphis

I actually kind of wonder what might happen if they don’t win at least one round in this tournament. Though this is an 8 vs 9 game I see the gap between these two as being much greater in terms of skill.

There is no doubt the Tigers have elite talent.

Their guard rotation is deep and experienced but the real difference in this one could be up front. PF Shaq Goodwin has been much better as a sophomore but he still leaves you wanting more. He has an NBA body but needs to improve on his decisionmaking.

Freshman Austin Nichols has proven to be a slippery scorer and rebounder and might be a focus if Goodwin is too liberal with his fouls.

In a one possession game it is hard not to like the Tigers.

If the Colonials want to turn this thing into a track meet that could actually play to their advantage and since the number is small I am less concerned with the fact that Memphis is not a strong foul shooting team.

The Tigers might be undeseeded

George Washington

The Colonials had a very nice season. They have been consistent and with UMass sliding they slid into the #3 slot in the A10 behind VCU and Saint Louis. Their seeding in this one shows the strength of the league and they appear to be this year’s La Salle. They have a bunch of good wins this season with their best probably being a defeat of Creighton.

They do not shy away from top competition.

George Washington is led by a couple of transfers in Maurice Creek and Isaiah Armwood.

Creek started his career at Indiana and is the team’s leading scorer while Armwood, the Colonials leading rebounder began his career with Villanova. GW has great balance with 5 players scoring between 11 and 15 points per game.

Like Memphis they are weak at the line so this one could be decided by whoever can make their free throws.

There is talent on this team andd I think foes have probably been underestimating them all season long. You look at them and don’t see that one facet you need to fear but before you know it they have beaten you.

Against a good schedule they have just 8 losses so they can easily advance if Memphis plays like “Memphis”.

Spread prediction: Memphis -3
