Missouri Tigers vs. Cincinnati Bearcats Preview

In a West Region match up the 6th seed Cincinnati Bearcats (25-8) face an 11th seed Missouri (23-10) squad that sputtered at the end of the season losing 4 of their last 5 games. NCAAB lines have this game at Even with a total of 137.5.

In their last games Missouri lost to Texas A&M 86-71 in the Big 12 conference tournament quarterfinals and Cincinnati lost badly 89-51 to Notre Dame in the quarterfinals of the Big East tourney.

The Bearcats were a better betting team going 15-13 ATS and Mizzou at 12-15-1 ATS.

This is a match up of 2 very different teams, as Mizzou likes to press on defense, play a faced pace game, and shoots the rock well from outside while Cincy plays a slow tempo game with good passing and ball control.

This game is not a good match for the Tigers, as if they have to play a slow paced game they tend to struggle. They have to set the pace of this game and get up and down the court and get easy hoops off the break. The Bearcats are not a high scoring team ranking 164th in the nation and they only have 2 players scoring in double figures in F Yancy Gates (11.8 ppg) and G Dion Dixon (11.6 ppg).

The Tigers must get a good game from leading scorer G Marcus Denmon (17.1 ppg), but the Tigers also spread the scoring around with 5 players averaging in double figures.

The key for Mizzou in this game on defense is for their frontcourt duo of Ricardo Ratliffe and Steve Moore to man up on the 6’9” Gates and now let him dominate in the paint.

This game is all about offense vs. defense, as the Tigers rank 9th in the nation in scoring and the Bearcats rank 9th in the nation in opponents’ points allowed.

All of the Cincinnati’s losses this season were in the Big East and every team they lost to is playing in the Big Dance.

While the Tigers have struggled and they are playing a team with great defense I have a feeling they will get back on track and win this game. I said it before that this is not a good match up for them, but they will set the pace of this game and their scorers will be too much for the Bearcats to handle.

Betting Trends

Missouri is 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and Cincinnati is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games.

Pick: Mizzou
