Washington Huskies vs. Georgia Bulldogs Preview

Washington (23-10) is a sleeper in the Big Dance, as they are a high scoring team that won their conference tournament and in the second round they face a Georgia (21-11) team that lost 2 of their last 3. NCAAB lines have Washington as 5.5-point favorites with a total of 139.5.

In their last games Georgia was upset losing to Alabama 65-59 in OT in the SEC tournament quarterfinals while Washington won the Pac 10 tournament title beating Arizona 77-75 in OT.

Neither team was a great bet on the season with Washington at 15-15-1 ATS and Georgia at 13-15-1 ATS.

Georgia has their work cut out for them in this game on defense, as Washington ranks 3rd in the nation in scoring. The Bulldogs do have a decent D ranking 66th in the nation in opponents’ points allowed. For them to pull off the upset they will have to play well against the Huskies’ big guns of G Isaiah Thomas (16.8 ppg 35.7% 3-pt FG%) and F Trey Thompkins (16.1 ppg 7.5 rpg). Thomas and F Justin Holiday (10.8 ppg) each shot over 35% from 3-pt land on the season. If Washington struggles to score they will lose, as they do not have a good D ranking 231st in opponents’ points allowed.

Georgia is not a high scoring team ranking 171st in the nation in scoring and they will need good games from F Trey Thompkins (16.1 ppg 7.5 rpg) and G Travis Leslie (14.5 ppg). Thompkins is the big key in this contest, as he has to provide offense and hit the boards.

The Bulldogs had problems with turnovers this season averaging 13.2 of them and they can’t turn the ball over a ton in this game or they will be in big trouble.

Georgia has the defense, but Washington has a great and well-balanced offense AND they come into the Big dance with a lot of confidence after their Pac 10 tourney win. The Huskies will come out on fire and easily win this game and cover the 5.5-point spread.

Betting Trends

Washington is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning record and 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and Georgia is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS loss and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games against teams with a winning percentage above 60%.

Pick: Washington -5.5
