So the latest Carmelo Anthony trade rumor has the mercurial forward heading to the Lakers to create a SuperTeam West that would be on a collision course with the Miami Heat in a matchup that has the NBA and TV suits in New York drooling. Wade and James vs. Bryant and Anthony in an NBA Finals that would eclipse even the Bird-Magic battles of the 1980s.

If the deal comes to pass, the Lakers would most likely have to give up Andrew Bynum in the deal, and if they get to the Finals LA had better hope that the big-challenged Heat are their opponents. Because if Los Angeles has to take on Boston’s enormous front line (or Orlando’s Dwight Howard, for that matter) without Bynum – well, does the score 131-92 sound familiar? That’s putting the cart ahead of the horse, but basically for the entire season the Nuggets have been playing with a roster that knows it won’t be intact when the playoffs start in April. Denver has still managed to win 57 percent of its games despite knowing that its franchise player has one foot out the door, has rejected a $65-million max contract extension and flat-out does not want to stay in Denver.

Trends:

DEN are 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 Wed. games.
Over is 7-3 in DEN last 10 overall.
Over is 10-3 in GS last 13 vs. Western Conference.
Favorite is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings.

BEST BET:

Uncertainty over the Anthony trade has kept this game off the board this morning, but it should be a tight line. Denver has shown some signs of leakage on the road, and hasn’t won a game outside of Colorado since catching the Mavericks sleeping way back on Nov. 6. Denver is 9-15 on the road, and the other 8 wins have been against the flotsam and jetsam of the league.

Golden State has been a streaky team all season, and with 3 wins in the last 4 games is on the upswing right now. Bettors could do worse than take GS on the money line as the Nuggets continue to let off-the-court issues affect their play between the lines.
