Three wins in the last four games have done wonders for the New York Knicks, whose mid-January 6-game losing streak (suffered mostly on the road) had supporters thinking that maybe New York was indeed one or two more free agent signing away from challenging Miami, Boston and Orlando (and maybe even Chicago) in a vastly improved Eastern Conference.

In the past the Knicks have had so many bowsers that many fans mistakenly mistook Knick games for the Westminster Dog Show, but this year’s team is an interesting bunch. Amare Stoudemire is a legit MVP candidate, although the Knicks would need to finish strong in the last 34 games for him to seriously challenge for the award. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

The free agent signing of point guard Ray Felton gave Mike D’Antoni stability at the position, even if Felton’s heavy load of minutes needs to be looked at. And no one has yet given up on a trade for Carmelo Anthony – don’t the top players get to go to the teams that they want to in today’s NBA?

The Knicks are currently positioned 6th in the Eastern Conference, and it’s doubtful that even the addition of Anthony would give New York enough of a tailwind to catch even Atlanta in the Eastern ladder climb. But it would inoculate them a bit if either injuries or extended minutes the starters have been playing take a toll down the stretch.

If, as expected, the Knicks are battling for a better playoff spot, D’Antoni won’t be able to lengthen his rotation beyond the 8 players that are seeing time now. Anthony would also give the Knicks a second option in the fourth quarter of tight games.

THE PICKS: Mark Cuban is allowed to handle sharp objects now that his Mavs are rocking and rolling again. Dallas has five straight wins (at New Jersey and home victories over the Clippers, Houston, Atlanta and Washington.)  Dirk Nowitzki has now played 9 games since missing time due to an injury, and the Mavs almost always score over 100 when he plays. And New York, of course, recognizes no red lights. Over is the play, even at 209.5.
