Sleeper Teams for 2016
Houston Rockets 18/1
The Rockets have great value at 18/1 for bettors.
James Harden could arguably been named MVP, but even so, he’s still one of the top tier players in the NBA. Him and Dwight Howard carried the Rockets to a Western Conference Finals appearance in 2015 and can easily get over that hump with a couple off season moves.
[dfads params=’groups=63727&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]
Should they make those moves to get another threat, these odds will most certainly change.
Dallas Mavericks 33/1
The Mavericks have consistently been a playoff team thanks in large part to their veteran presence and their savvy owner Mark Cuban. Backing the Mavs at this high of odds has a lot of value for two reason.
First, Dirk Nowitzki is at his peak. Some may argue he’s going downhill and they have a legitimate case. However, Dirk still has some left in the gas tank and has a chip on his shoulder heading into the 2016 season.
Also, Mark Cuban is so unpredictable, you just never know who he’ll make a move for this offseason. With a lot of top players hitting the market, one big move for Cuban could change the whole dynamic of his team and get them into a championship contender.
Expecting the Mavericks to make the playoffs in 2016, bettors could have a hedging opportunity in the later rounds and lock in some serious profit with them.
Los Angeles Lakers 66/1
This is an interesting number. The Lakers have been terrible the past couple years. Had bettors gone into last year with the “Kobe Bryant is coming back healthy” mentality, they had lost their future play early in the season.
While this is probably Kobe’s last chance at a title, he’s going to do whatever it takes to bring in the right players to be by his side.
Like Houston, one big move by the Lakers could not just get basketball relevant again for Lakers fans, but also will change the odds drastically.
New York Knicks 100/1
People may be laughing at this sleeper, but Carmelo Anthony got some much needed rest down the stretch of the 2015 season. He’s going to come back 100% healthy and a man on a mission.
[dfads params=’groups=63741&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]
Free Agents also are attracted to the spotlight that is New York City. Melo needs a lot of help there, but put a couple stars on the big stage by his side and the Knicks could have an outside chance in 2016.
Minnesota Timberwolves 150/1
The Timberwolves aren’t near championship caliber just yet. They have however built a solid young core that showed a lot of potential last season.
While these players like Wiggins, Rubio, Dieng and others continue to develop, they’ll become more and more dangerous. The team chemistry will only go up and they should be in a position to cause some havoc.
At 150/1 they may be worth a flyer. If they can sneak into the playoffs, the Twolves could offer bettors some great hedging opportunities.
