Probable Hot Starting Pitchers:

Zach Greinke (Royals)

Greinke has been solid all season long with a 2.19 ERA on the season, but his team is just 14-15 to show for a Cy Young type of year. Greinke will be on 5 days rest, but he’ll make a day start on the road two situations where he does not pitch his best. During day starts his ERA is 3.79 nearly 2 runs higher than his night ERA of 1.80. His road ERA is 2.61 and it is also much higher than the damage he has done on his own field 81 points higher to be exact.

Bet at 5Dimes

Greinke has 4 starts against the Tigers this year and posts a 2-1 record and a 1.16 ERA. However, the Royals lost both of his road starts as they failed to score runs. Greinke has pitched well in Detroit in his last 4 starts he has a 1.67 ERA dating back to last year. The Royals have beaten up on the Tigers the last few days and I would not be surprised if they did it again after all the Royals are 5-0 in their last 5 vs. RH starter, but for some reason the bats just seem to go quiet when Greinke pitches. He will face a tough opponent here on Thursday in Edwin Jackson.

Jackson has solid number at home and his team has won 10 out of 13 times this year. To beat him at home you are going to have to put up runs and that’s not something I think the Royals can do. Although Jackson has not been great allowing 16 hits 5 ER in 12.1 innings pitched for 2 starts against the Royals this year. Tigers still are 9-1 in his last 10 when he is a home favorite, and are 23-9 in their last 32 vs. RH starter. The bettor bet here would be the under although I wouldn’t play it during the day as the Tigers are creating .52 runs more per 27 outs during the day than night. Then again the Royals are scoring 1.18 runs per 27 outs less during the day than night, pick your poison. For me it’s a no go on both sides, but if I had to pick I’d be on the home team here with the better bullpen in the Tigers.

Notables – Last 5 Starts!

Cole Hamels (2-2, 1.15 WHIP, 2.34 ERA)
Jarr Jurjens (2-2, 1.18 WHIP, 2.02 ERA)
John Danks (2-1, 1.28 WHIP, 2.59 ERA)
Randy Wells (1-3, 1.47 WHIP, 2.76 ERA)

Most likely to sustain and win:

Cole Hamels

Probable Cold Starting Pitchers:

Josh Becket (Red Sox)

Yes you heard the name right Beckett has had some difficulties his velocity is down and his fastballs are up. However, he has only given up HR’s to two Angels over his career and those two are Abreu and Vlad with 2HR a piece. Beckett has looked better recently as he has not given up a HR in his last two starts. This is after he gave up 14 HR in his previous 5 starts. Things seem to be back under control and the Red Sox had a nice come from behind victory on Wednesday night.

Becket goes up against one of the best offenses in the AL, but they still hold a collective average of .249 off Beckett. Beckett will go up against Ervin Santanna who has a 6.17 career ERA vs. the Red Sox. Add on top how successfull Boston is at home vs. RHP and it spells trouble.

Notables – Last 5 Starts!

Ross Detwiller (0-2, 2.02 WHIP, 7.59 ERA)
Clayton Mortensen (1-2, 1.59 WHIP, 6.88ERA)

Most likely to rebound: Josh Beckett
