Baseball Betting: White Sox vs Cardinals
The White Sox are in first place in the AL Central with a small cushion over the surprising Indians.

Thursday June 14

Moneyline: St. Louis -130, Chicago +110
O/U: 9
PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox RH Gavin Floyd (4-6, 5.37 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Jake Westbrook (4-6, 4.25 ERA)
Chicago
Tonight they are looking to bounce back after getting dominated by the Cardinals Lance Lynn last night. It was the second time they have been shutout in the last week, surprising for a club ranked 5th in the Majors in runs per game. A series win on the road would give them some momentum before visiting the Dodgers over the weekend.
When you look at starter Gavin Floyd’s peripheral numbers they should lead to better success. He strikes out more than 3 times as many batters than he walks and gives up just a hit per inning which means that he might be victim of what some of the experts like Joe Peta call cluster luck, where big damage happens as a result of timing (that might balance out over time). The hard thing is trying to figure out when that luck might turn. I like the value on the White Sox tonight. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]
St. Louis
The Cardinals are surprised to find themselves in third place in the NL Central. They view themselves as real contenders but you could argue that they are lucky to be where they are given unexpected performances from the likes of Carlos Beltran (19 homers), Yadier Molina (.324 average) and Lance Lynn (10 wins and a stellar ERA). There might be some reinforcements coming but who knows what they will get from Chris Carpenter and others.
I have to admit that I always want to bet against Jake Westbrook. His stuff is very hittable and hasn’t had what I would call a good season since 2004. The Cardinals are winning only one third of his starts making him a team worst -5.8 units on the season. Westbrook has been an especially bad bet as a favourite – just 2-7 – if you needed any more reason to hop on the Sox tonight.
O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Chicago 5 – St. Louis 2
