Texas
The Rangers are making their way through the Northeast and hit New York having just taken the last two games of their series against Boston. This team has struggled to find an identity this season.

They had to have known that their pitching staff had question marks but the offense has been pretty average as well. Injuries have also been an issue as there are seven pitchers, including six starters that are currently on the disabled list. Plus Josh Hamilton who has yet to suit up.
Texas hasn’t gotten much from Colby Lewis the last few seasons so his early performance has been a godsend. He is coming off his worst outing of the season but he has better numbers on the road than at home this season.

I don’t like this matchup but Lewis is probably being underrated right now. Against mediocre teams he might be a play but New York is better than that.
New York
The Yankees have been a surprise first place team but slipped to second while inactive yesterday. At a few games over .500 they are kind of where they should be it is just that the AL East has been so unimpressive this season.
I have been surprised that the Yankees have been able to cobble together enough starting pitching to win but not surprised this club can mash the ball. They are 0-1 without leadoff threat Jacoby Ellsbury who is on the DL.
I think they are going to miss him a lot.
Other than the bullpen ace Michael Pineda has been the Yankees best pitcher this season.
What has really stood out is his amazing control as he has just three walks on the season over eight starts. The other day he struck out 16 Orioles while not issuing a free pass as it appears he is finally harnessing his stuff.

Even when he is getting hit the fact that there are not a lot of runners on base is minimizing the damage.
