It was the Mariners first loss in their last three. They will now look to get back to .500 with a win in Game 2 on Friday night.

The Indians (22-25) arrived in the Emerald City, coming off a 12-3 win over the Rangers on Wednesday, producing eight runs in the bottom of the third inning. It was the Tribe’s biggest inning since it scored eight runs in the first inning of a game April 20, 2013, against the Astros.

Jason Kipnis has been on fire, and has 46 hits in May, the most by a Cleveland player in one month since the 2000 season. Kipnis went2-for-4 with two RBI’s against the Mariners on Thursday.

Meanwhile, for the Mariners’ (23-24), Robinson Cano missed starting a game for the first time this season because of flu-like symptoms, but did pinch hit in the ninth and flied out.

It didn’t really matter though, as Cano flied out, continuing the slump he’s been in for much of the season, hitting .253 with just one home run and 13 RBIs. He was 9 for 37 (.243) on Seattle’s recent road trip with both of his RBI coming in the same game.

The Indians will look to build on their Game 1 win by sending Trevor Bauer to the mound on Friday. The right-hander surrendered just one earned run on four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts over 7.1 innings Tuesday against the White Sox, then followed up with another 5-2 win at home versus the Reds on Sunday, allowing just a single run. Bauer has allowed just on road run all season, so playing a pitcher-friendly Safeco Field could produce another low scoring affair for the 24-year-old.

The Mariners will counter with 22-year-old Taijuan Walker who has lost three in a row. First giving up four earned runs on seven hits with four walks in 3.2 innings against the Orioles, then struggling at the Blue Jays, who shelled the right-hander for six hits and four earned runs including two homers in a 8-2 loss.

Indians – Walker has been more than disappointing this season, and that combined with Bauer’s recent road performances, yields a winning wager with the visitors here.
