NFL Week 8 Match Ups

There are a couple of great divisional match-ups this week that should not only be highly entertaining, but also have major implications for the division race. Minnesota will travel to Green Bay for round two of Favre vs. the Packers, the New York Giants head down 95 to play the Eagles, Miami heads north to the Meadowlands to play the Jets, and the Falcons will be in the Big Easy to play the undefeated Saints on Monday night.

Here is a brief look at all the match ups with some keys to the game.

Sunday, Nov. 1

(Byes: Cincinnati, Kansas City, New England, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Washington)

Denver Broncos at Baltimore Ravens, 1 p.m.

Both teams are coming off a bye week and should be well prepared for this one. Keep an eye on Elvis Dumervil for Denver and Ed Reed for Baltimore as they could be game changers on the defensive side of the ball.

Houston Texans at Buffalo Bills, 1 p.m.

The Texans are 4-2 in their last six road games. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will try and lead the Bills to their third win in a row to even their record at 4-4.

Cleveland Browns at Chicago Bears, 1 p.m.

Bears’ QB Jay Cutler has played much better at home where he has yet to throw an interception. The Browns only average 30 more yards per game passing the ball than running it (128 to 97).

Seattle Seahawks at Dallas Cowboys, 1 p.m.

In the last three weeks, Cowboys WR Miles Austin has 19 catches for 440 yards and 4 TD’s. Seattle has to do a much better job of protecting QB Matt Hasselbeck to have a chance in this one.

St. Louis Rams at Detroit Lions, 1 p.m.

This could be the best chance the Rams have all season to win a game. Their 17 game losing streak is now the longest in the NFL. The previous one was held by Detroit at 19.

San Francisco 49ers at Indianapolis Colts, 1 p.m.

Alex Smith gets the start at QB for the 49ers in place of Shaun Hill. The Colts are looking to go 7-0 for the fourth time in the last five seasons.

Miami Dolphins at New York Jets, 1 p.m.

Miami relied heavily on the Wildcat formation to beat the Jets earlier this season 31-27.With Leon Washington gone for the season, the pressure will be on Jets RB Thomas Jones to carry the load.

New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles 1 p.m.

The Giants pass rush has been non-existent the past two weeks against Drew Brees and Kurt Warner recording only 2 sacks. Look for the Eagles to use more of the Wildcat formation to try and further establish their running game.

Oakland Raiders at San Diego Chargers, 4:05 p.m.

San Diego has 12 games in a row against Oakland. Look for Raider QB JaMarcus Russell to get benched again if he has another poor start.

Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers, 4:15 p.m.

Keep an eye on Brett Favre’s composure as emotions might get the best of him playing in Lambeau. The Packer’s have beaten the Vikings six out of the last seven games in Green Bay.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans, 4:05 p.m.

Under pressure from Titan’s team owner, Bud Adams it appears that Jeff Fisher will start QB Vince Young in favor of Kerry Collins who has struggled so far.

Carolina Panthers at Arizona Cardinals, 4:15 p.m.

This is a rematch of last year’s divisional round playoff game in which the Cardinals intercepted Jake Delhomme five times in route to a 33-13 win. Look for Delhomme to get the hook if gets off to another bad start.

Monday, Nov. 2

Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints, 8:30 p.m.

Atlanta will look to get RB Michael Turner as many carries as possible as his teams are 14-1 when he has at least 19 rushing attempts. The Saints scoring 40+points in four games out of their first six is an NFL record.

As predicted in last week’s article, the favorites came up big with only two teams getting points covering the spread; Buffalo and Arizona. This week there are six games with double digit spreads. In looking at some of the match-ups it could be a good week to take the points as some of these games will be closer than you think.
