Week 5 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire

Week 5 NFL waiver wire plus fantasy football lineup tips to help decide who to start or bench on your fantasy football team…

NFL Week 5 Fantasy Football Tips – Waiver Wire Week 5

This is our waiver wire pick-ups column. Dave B scours the free agent pools in fantasy land for the best available talent every week. Availability, of course, depends on the league. We’re using 12 team, 15 roster spot leagues as the median, but we’ll look for roster candidates for leagues of all shapes and sizes.

After all of the weekly games are finished be sure to check our cheatsheets, a who’s hot, and who’s not report plus more in our fantasy football guide.

The key to Fantasy Football success is doing your homework. Injury replacements, bye-week fill-ins, and unexpectedly emerging stars don’t just appear on Fantasy rosters. They are scouted, scrutinized, and picked apart. To do this well is to enjoy each and every Sunday. To do this poorly is to fret, pace, and eventually snap every Sunday. Some previous Waiver Wire darlings are paying dividends (Mike Sims-Walker), and others are burning their fantasy owners ( Fred Taylor).

So here we go with players that should be added to Fantasy rosters this week – leave a comment – let me know what you think!!

QB’s

Joe Flacco – Baltimore – Its time!! Time to consider this remarkable sophomore for your Fantasy team – not only as a bye week fill-in, but as an every week starter. I was one of those who thought that 08 was a mirage and that Flacco would take a step back this year. WRONG!!!! With 8 tds. on the year and very good yardage numbers, he’s worthy of being on your team.

David Gerrard – Jacksonville – We always knew that he had the talent, and a good football IQ. We just didn’t know when and if he could put it all together. Well, in Week 4, he did just that. With a new toy (Mike Sims-Walker), and his Running Backs catching the ball out of the backfield, Gerrard appears poised to go on quite a run. Dates against the Seahawks and the Rams coming up should support claims that Gerrard could be a more than adequate bye week fill in.

Shaun Hill – San Francisco – This dude is getting it done! He has his team off to a 3-1 start and is doing so with the poise of a veteran. With a strong running game that teams have to respect, Hill is finding his receivers and his backs with regularity. He’s not gonna win for your Fantasy team a lot of weeks, but he aint gonna hurt you either.

Other to monitor – Dante Culpepper – Detroit – Stafford is day to day with a bad knee!

RB’s

Jerome Harrison – Cleveland – Lets be honest folks – Jamal Lewis should have been cut in training camp, and the fact that he’s injured is a true blessing to the Browns. After changing Qbs and starting Harrison at RB, the Browns actually looked competitive this week. Don’t think that the coaches didn’t notice – they HAVE to ride the hot hand and clutch onto anything to gain respectability for their team.

Ray Rice – Baltimore – One of those guys that was probably drafted in most Fantasy leagues, but was probably dropped in many because of the McGahee factor. Well, if he’s available in your league, its time to snatch him up. 152 combined yards in Week 4 vaults Rice into Fantasy relevance once again. It could be that the annual McGahee slide has started early this year in Baltimore.

Michael Bush – Oakland – Darren McFadden left his Week 4 game with a meniscus injury. No – I don’t know exactly what that is. But Bush proved that he can do some damage and he will be in line for the lions share of the carries on a awful Raiders team.

Other to monitor – Justin Vargas – Oakland – see Michael Bush.

WR’s

Mike Sims – Walker – Jacksonville – Still available in a ton of leagues – don’t know why!!! Tons of targets, chemistry with his QB, and another 7 catches for 91 yards and 2 tds. in Week 4 should put all doubts to bed. Grab him if he’s available – I beg you!!

Sidney Rice – Minnesota – Really should be picked up already – but if not – GRAB HIM! He’s really been Favre’s best weapon in the passing game. Monday night solidified Rice as a WR3 with a chance to become WR2 material.
Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com
Mohamed Massaquoi – Cleveland – Welcome Derek Anderson at QB in Cleveland and Introducing MM!! Where the hell did this one come from? 8 grabs for 148 yards is crazy for a dude that noone had ever heard of before! I really have nothing else to say -I don’t know who the hell he is!!

Kenny Britt – Tennessee – Britt has been a factor in all of Tennessee’s games this year and appears to be overtaking Justin Gage as Kerry Collins’ favorite target. Britt’s learning curve seems to have been a short one, and with a 7 catch, 105 yard effort on Sunday, he appears poised to become one of the NFL’s new Studs.

Others to monitor – Austin Collie – Indianapolis – 6 grabs for 61 yards and a td. Sunday – give him a look.

– Brandon Petigrew – Detroit – someone other than Calvin Johnson HAS to be open!!! 4 catches 64 yards in Week 4

TE’s

Marcedes Lewis – Jacksonville – Finally paying off for the Jags with 4 catches, 76 yards and a td. on Sunday. That makes2 tds. in 3 weeks for Lewis. With the newfound confidence of David Gerrard, Lewis will be looked upon often and with dates against Seattle and St. Louis, what’s not to like?

Jermichael Finley – Green Bay – Hot and cold Tight End, but if you believe – you might have a diamond in the rough.

Defense

Denver – 4-0 to start the season????? Broncos Defense winning games????? I should go back to bed. Believe it folks – they are for real.

New Orleans – All they have to be is decent. This unit has been WAY more than that this year. The Saints are a complete team this year – SCARY!

WR Mike Sims-Walker came up big last week as did QB David Gerrard. The problem is you just cannot count on that kind of production from this team week in and week out.
