Plainfield Country Club in Edison, New Jersey will play host to the best that Golf has to offer this upcoming week when the 2015 Barclays officially tees off. Ready for some fireworks? I know I am.
The PGA pros head to North Carolina this week to play the 2015 Wyndham Championship – the last chance for many to crack the top 125 in the FedEx Cup standings and to qualify for the playoffs that begin next week.
The 2015 PGA Championship comes our way this week from Whistling Straights – sight of Dustin Johnson’s famous 2010 club grounding and subsequent penalty in what was deemed to be a bunker.
A terrific field has gathered in Akron, Ohio for the 2015 WGC Bridgestone Invitational. Firestone Country Club will once again play host to the elite of the golf world on its par 70, 7,400 yard layout – by far the longest par 70 in a non-major. Just two par 5s await meaning that a healthy dose of long par 4s will be staring the pros in the face.
Formerly known as the AT&T National the 2015 Quicken Loans National comes our way from Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia for the first time this week. The Robert Trent Jones Golf Club is a par-71 layout of 7,385 yards with three par 5s and four par 3s.
The PGA TOUR returns to North America this week to play the Canadian Open at a familiar venue for this event – Glen Abbey Golf Club for the 27th time. It is a 7,273 yard par 72 track – relatively short in the grand scheme of things.
The third Major of the year comes our way from the Old Course at St. Andrews this week for the 29th time- I can’t wait. All eyes will be on Jordan Spieth as he tries to win the third leg of the Grand Slam (The British Open Championship) – he has been as good as any golfer has been through the first seven months of any year I can remember.
The PGA pros head to Illinois this week for the 2015 John Deere Classic – another one of the easier stops on TOUR. In fact this event was the second easiest par 71 that the pros played last year – the cut was minus 4!
The PGA pros head to West Virginia this week to play the 2015 Greenbrier Classic at The Old White TPC – a par-70 layout that stretches out to 7,287 yards. The event has been a tad difficult to handicap – Stuart Appleby, Scott Stallings, Ted Potter Jr., Jonas Blixt and Angel Cabrera are the last five winners here – hardly top end names!
The TPC Travelers Championship has some big shoes to fill – one week after a scintillating US Open. The pros move to TPC River Highlands this week – a par-70 layout of 6,841 yards. It features plenty of par 5 scoring opportunities and some drivable par 4s.
Golf’s second major of the 2015 season goes down this week at Chambers Bay for the first time ever (the 2015 U.S. Open Championship). A 7,742-yard par 70 links style track awaits the contenders with serious elevation changes and three par 4s what will stretch out to 535+ yards apiece – yikes!
The PGA pros head to Memphis one week before the US Open for the 2015 St. Jude Classic. A slightly watered down field will assemble on TPC at Southwind – a par-70 layout with two par 5s, four par 3s and 12 par 4s.
The PGA pros head to Ohio this week to play the 2015 Memorial Golf Tournament. A par 72 7,392 yards track awaits the pros – so do some of the most difficult bunkers on TOUR. Length off the tee is crucial on a fairly forgiving course – four par 5s, four par 3s and ten par 4s will give the contenders plenty of opportunities at birdie.
The PGA Pros head to Irving, Texas this week to play the 2015 AT&T Byron Nelson Championship and TPC Four Seasons Resort. TPC Four Seasons is a par-70 layout, stretching out to a relatively short 7,166 yards but it was the second-hardest par 70 of 13 in non-majors last season.
The PGA pros move to Texas this week to play the 2015 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club – a par 70 track that stretches out to 7,204 yards. Obviously, length off the tee won’t be critical – accuracy and good overall ball-striking will be at a premium.
2015 Wells Fargo Championship Preview and Picks
After quite a week at The Players the PGA pros move to North Carolina and Quail Hollow to play the 2015 Wells Fargo Championship. A terrific field has been assembled to give it a go on the 7,562 yard par-72 layout that includes a terrific final three holed dubbed The Green Mile and the two toughest finishing holes on TOUR last season.
