We’re all agog over this week’s NFL Conference title games, and the Super Bowl after that. Which makes this a great time to get a jump on the basketball betting market. We kick off this weekend’s list of 10 stats and factoids with this hoops curiosity: The inventor of basketball, James Naismith, was also the only losing head coach in Kansas Jayhawks history. Naismith finished in 1907 with a record of 55-60.
Rua vs. Coleman: The Rematch
The second biggest fight of the night pits Mauricio Rua (-400) against Mark Coleman (+250) in a re-match of their PRIDE fight that took place in Japan in 2006. It ended with the hall of fame Coleman pulling off a stunning upset by breaking Rua’s arm in the first round.
Buffalo Sabres (-175) at Chicago Blackhawks (+155)
The Sabres head to the United Center for a match-up with the red-hot Blackhawks. Chicago does not give up points at home, they are a blistering 13-2-4 at home while the Sabres have a good overall record, they are only two games over .500 on the road. Chicago goalie Nikolai Khabibulin, who has allowed two goals or fewer in seven of hits last eight appearances, possesses a save percentage of .926 and is at the top of his game.

Minnesota made one of the best turnarounds in college football this season, but they are heavy dogs at Phoenix’s Insight Bowl against Kansas tonight.
The Jayhawks are eight-point favorites and 71% of bettors are backing them.
Minnesota (7-5, 7-4 ATS) finished with four straight losses, but this bowl experience should be cherished after a 1-10 2007 campaign.

As the #21 Tigers enter Monday’s Valero Alamo Bowl against the #23 Northwestern Wildcats as 12 ½-point favorites, bettors should be reminded that Missouri has covered just three of their last 10 games.
